View Full Version : Heat Riser P/N?

I'm putting the Edelbrock headers on the GW, and the directions said I needed to have a heat riser on the passenger side. After finally tracking one down, I tried to install it yesterday, only to find out that the bolt holes in the heat riser I got are about 1/4" too close together - the bolts get toed-in and won't go into the header flange on the other side.
P/N for the one I got says it's 122. Anyone know of a different/correct P/N? Seems like the bolt holes should be 3.5" center-to-center.
Also, as a side question: These don't attach to anything, right? They're automatically worked by the temp. coil spring on the side?
Stock p/n is 323 8998 for the damper valve assembly on a stock cast manifold but I don't know if it'll work on aftermarket tube headers?

RacerJ, been following your questions on the riser and just noticed you're from SoCal. Don't worry about the heat riser. It was installed to close the exhaust off and let the engine reach operating temps. quicker in cold climates. I ditched mine when I went to headers and my J4000 started and warmed up fine on several sub-zero days this winter.

I'm not sure the passenger side will seal right without it... (Anybody else done this with the Edelbrock headers?)

The riser is only a couple of inches high so I don't think it''l be that much of a factor in the fit of the pipes. If it is, just have a spacer made. Most smaller muffler shops can do this.

I'll have a look-see this weekend.
