T-18a ID tag(?)

help... is there a tag on the tranny, and where, to tell if it is a T-18a or just a T-18? I'm going to look tomorrow, and need to know where to look.

the id tag on a t18 dont tell you much. it should have "t18 something something" cast on the side. my t18a is "t18 1b" but it could say somethig else,dep on the origin of the tranny. if yourelooking at trannies still in their original fsj homes,the t18 was used until 75,the t18a was used 76-79 with the d20,80 and up with the 208.

also the only way to verify wide or close ratio is to put it in gear and count the innput turns for 1 revolution of the output in first(grany) gear high range.id definately verify that before handing over any non refundable cash.

I have a 75 Cherokee with a T18 that has granny. Although mine was modified by AM General after AMC built it, maby that changed some things.
