Swapped a centered-pumpkin rear axle into their FSJ in order to replace their Quadratrac T-Case with a different T-Case with a centered output shaft? Does anyone know if their are other trucks or SUVs that share a similar track width with my 79 Wagoneer in order to do this type of swap?
Also, Is it correct that AMC engines share the same bellhousing to transmission bolt patterns?

i haven't done it personally but i would think any dana 44 out of a wagoneer w/o QT would work, the Chief models and J-truck do have wider axles though

Yes, that sounds correct. What I am hoping to do though is find a Ford 9", Dana 60 or maybe even a GM 14 bolt that will swap in with ease.
I have a rebuilt Mopar Big block waiting on the sidelines..... :-O

One of the reasons for the offset rear (even d20 equipped Wags/Chero had a slight offset rear, not as much as the QT offset D44) is for gas tank clearance. This can be an issue depending on the 'FSJ' you are referring to.
I have a QT offset D44 and will be running a D20 by next week... several members here do already, like Porkchop... Scotty had just the opposite... a Dana18 T-case (offset like QT) to a centered rear diff. They have no problems....

i was thinking this same thing with my wag. Right now it has got about a 2" aal lift so what is the max lift you could go and still keep the D44 QT off set axle? I like the Allwheel drive of the QT but I would like to change to a gear case for easier maintence and was thinking of a D20 but the offset Dana 18 sounds interesting what could one be found in? And can it bolt up to the TH400?

Do a search for Dana 18's in the Tech forum.... this has been brought up several times...lots of info.. Porkchop took a Dana 20 and Dana 18 and created a hybrid of the two...that's just an example... Scotty is a wealth of info in this area.

Here is a good thread that talks about the D18 switch pretty good. It also talks about the bad things with them as well. Me and scotty break it down pretty good. There is another one that i am looking for also.
