How do I remove the air vent cable?

Will it require removing the knob?

The reason I ask, is the knob on my cable has broke or been stripped to the point it won't stay on. If replacing the cable does not require removing the knob, I'll epoxy it back in place.

I know how to get it out of the dash, but I couldnt figure out how it is hooked in the vent part. In the dash there is a little plastic clip that holds it on from the back. grab a flashlight and crawl under there and have a look.
