Hey Guys,Got a question RE;Slipping trans when cold.Any cures? It only does it when fully at a stop, but not everytime.when it warms up,its fine. When it sits over night it will do it till it warms.Thinking the pump possibly.I'm sure this is a common prob with the 727.

Hey I hear ya, mine will be slow to engage once and a while when I put into drive. If I put it into 2nd or 1st it jumps in immediately. Your sounds a little different though.

On realy cold days is about the only time I have trouble with my 88 GW. However you may want to make sure the fluid level is topped off and/or drop the pan and change the fluid.

I think you are right about the pump assembly. You can engage the pump by putting it in neutral for a few moments before selecting a gear (or so I've been told), that may help. If it's any consolation I had the same prob with a 67 Chrysler New Yorker 440ci/727 auto (same tranny I think) and it did the same thing you mention above for about 5 years (close to 20,000 miles) and still worked when I sold it.

i was having a lot of slipping problems with my transmission. i took it to one of these places that pumps out all of the transmission fluid using the cooler lines and replaces it all as they go. my transmission works like a brand new one...

The TF727 doesn't pump while in park or neutral. It takes a bit for the torque converter to fill and engage, so as far as I can tell it's just the nature of the beast. Ditto the comments on topping off the fluid and changing the filter. The tranny on my '91 Waggie has 172k on it, and I don't have any PO service receipts for tranny service so that's the first thing I did.
