I'm in the process of selling my '89 GW (doesn't fit in to our family right now).

The potential buyer took it to have a problem checked. The Wag has pulled to the right for some time. I've had the alignment checked and rechecked, and swapped the tires to make sure that wasn't the problem.

So, the buyer calls and says the guy told them its a "huge" problem with the "differential". Don't know if he means front or rear yet.

Could a bad differential really cause the car to track to the right? There is no grinidng or whining noise whatsoever.

Any ideas? What does a differential job cost, if that's whats needed?

Could be a bent housing \ tube. I'd certainly get a second opinion before I repaired it or came down on the price. You could get a salvage diff. for $250.

Could be a bearing grabbing a little due to being dry. I had an old station wagon in Florida once and I kept driving it after it started pulling to the left. It kept pulling more and more, and then finally the poor thing got so hot it cause the spindle to bend, collapsing the driver's side tire into the fender well.....go figure.....After that little incident bearings are a real big priority for me.

may also involve the springs.when their hardware gets worn it sometimes affects the handling. sounds like the buyer is trying to chisel you down.
