Anyone ever tried one of those clear fuel filters? Months ago when I was having troubles a mechanic capped off the nipple on the fuel filter that goes to the charcoal cannister. It has been running good as new like that. Today I thought, "since I haven't been using the return line for months, why don't I get one of those really cool, high dollar, clear filters." So I bought one and installed it. I don't see any reason to take it off, but I get a bit nervous messing around with gas. Is there any reason I should take this thing out? Is anyone else running one of these? Is my Jeep going to blow-up?

Those work good. I like them because you can actually see when they need changing.

I've got a clear filter on mine by the carb. And I've got a regular 3/8" steel one under it between the fuel tank and the electric pump. The clear one is great because it lets me see if I've got any contamination. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/cool.gif

I like them. I've heard some takes they are unsafe, because they could break in an accident. I consider that close to urban ledgend. Yes its possible. And a plastic one can melt, and a metal one crack. They are pretty heavy duty. Filter is replacemable and inexpensive.

Only reason I didn't put one on the wag was the vapor return. Well, glad it works for you.

i'm with nograin on this. i personally don't trust them. if your wheelin and hit a hard dip could shatter and have gas all over the hot intake.

They are good in that you can see your fuel
supply but I've found they pass a lot of dirt.I run a canister filter before it on my wrecker.I burn scrapper gas occassionally if
it smells halfway volital. Before I ran a primary filter I was getting all kinds of
muddy looking dirt in the carb bowl with
just the glass filter! 64 Chevy Wrecker,

i had one of those on my boat. one day, out on the river, i smelled gas. i looked around and found the filter leaking. when i tried to tighten the leaking fitting it just kept turning. stripped right out. took out the filter and put in a small piece of metal tubing till i got home. now it has a plastic filter, so i can still see if there is fuel in the line.

Yea, I installed an electric fuel pump in front of the tank on the frame rail. Now I want to get one of those fancy see through units and am going to install it right after the electric fuel pump.

Don't use a glass one. Get the clear plastic ones. It's just like a metal one. I run one on mine. I was having trouble with fuel pumps for a while there so I took out the filter tween the carb and pump and put it right before the pump. No more changing the pump.

yeah, dont use a glass one. rocks will win that battle. i would recommend a filter before the pump to protect it from fuel tank trash, and one after it to protect the carb from pieces of pump when it dies.
