Seems that 3 out the 4 automatic windows on my 85 Wag have gone out at about the same time. Two have the plastic gear/rail broken. Has anyone replaced these that can give me an idea of how hard and how expensive this is to fix?

Go back to the main page on this site and look under/tech/electrical/ I think. There are a couple of articles on replacing the flex-tracks. The tracks are still avail from the dealer

Thanks Joe,
That helps, at least now I know it will not take me a whole day day to do it. Don't really like working in those tight places.

I picked up a couple at my local dealer for some where around $9 - 12 each.

I don't remember if the tech article warns about the mirror switch so I will. If you pull the driver's door panel be very careful of the mirror switch wiring. It is too short and you can easily pull the back of the mirror switch off if you're not careful and that's a mess as wires go all over the place.
If you pull that panel you need to support it (the panel) so there's no stress on the wires. There are three connectors that can then be undone and you can store the panel safely away. I would recommend taping real good around the back of the switch for a safeguard against any future removal. And by all means lube your lock solenoids while you're in there.

Welcome Hiemeken,

Just did the drivers door yesterday. Its not too hard to do. I have not read the tech section on it but a couple of things came to mind. Tape the window up to get it out of your way. On the front door take all the Torx screws holding the track/motor mechanism and you can move it so the top of the metal track that the nylon gear slides on is sticking out the hole in the door at the top-rear. Then you can slide the new piece onto the track easily and reassemble everything. Grease the track and lube the other mechanisms in the door as MM said while you have it opened up. Remember to put the plastic liner back into place and tuck it into the bottom slot so water does'nt drain into your Wag. Here in LA LA land the nylon tracks are $14.

Thanks for all the tips, this really helps since the Wag is on-going project things often get left on the backburner. I just started a web page with some pictures. Here's the link. http://lightning.prohosting.com/~jaime52/
