What does everyone see in the edlebrock carb? I didnt dislike mine, but I didnt think it was any better than a Holley. I couldnt get any MPG on a Chevy. Has anyone tried a Road Demon from Barry Grant?

I ran the 1400 serries forever, I never ran a Holley. I never noticed anyone doing anything better or performance wise with the Holley or anything else out there, so I continue to run them. Kinda like you said you didnt think Edlebrock was any better than a Holley.

the edelbrock is generally better for offroading. But it far from a "great" offroad carb. It will do sidehills fine, but if you try to go up a really steep hill it will want to load up unless you set it up not to. Holley's dont like up or down hills because of their float bowl arangement. Same with demons.
I have a performer carb/intake and get 12mpg, sometimes better. Granted I have a 4sp and not a automatic.

I got 15 outa mine on the way to Ouray. Mike Hani got to see me dance a jig at the gas station! I got no complaints OffRoad - once I put in the offroad needles and seats. They seem to have made A LOT of differance.

I have had many different vehicles over the years with many different carbs- Quadrajunks, Holleys, Rochesters, and Edelbrocks. I currently have a 1407 (750 CFM/manual choke) on my 360 and it performs great. I have found that the Edelbrock is easy to set up and maintain that set up. The holley I had on a Pontiac 400 was constantly needing adjustment.

I to have tried just about anything that would hold gas short of a soup can with pinholes in the bottom and have found the E-Brock and Carter AFB to be the simplest to work on and ajust for all kinds of differant vehicles and applications. :D

Edelbrock are easy to tune and hold themselves alot longer than a holley.
Oh yeah I have a holley and I hate it. blah.

We run a edlebrock on a 355 chevy in a pickup and cant do better than 12 mpg. Not alot better with the holley but some. Would you run the edlebrock 600 cfm on a stock 360?

I run a holley 600, prefer quadrajunks, would rather build a carter afb (edelbrock)

I had the Edelbrock 1406 on my Cherokee for almost 2 years, and never did like it. Once you got it started, it ran fine, and did ok off-road, but it was almost impossible to start in the morning, or when it was cold.
I took the Holley off of my parts wag, and haven't looked back since. Starts first time, every time. Still need to take it off road to see what happens, and go from there, but Holley's are easy!!

Reason why is because people got tired of dumping two cups of fuel onto the manifold EVERY TIME they needed to re-jet their Holly. THEN they have to replace the float bowl gaskets because they are a one-use application. Oh, then there's another cup of fuel all over the place after removing a float bowl AGAIN when the power valve blows (about once a week!).
Let me see...., no power valve to blow from any type of backfire, jets can be accessed without losing ANY fuel onto the manifold, fast and easy to jet and set up, hmmmmm, maybe that's why most have gone to AFB's?

:D I like them cause they're shiney and everybody knows that shiney stuff makes your truck go faster! :D
As others have said they're cheap, easy to work on and once tuned they "stay" in tune.

Fsjwagonner, Yes I have a Road Demon. Very nice carb. I had to rejet, and go up in squirter size and such. But I'm running it on a 440, and BG sets up the 625 Demon for a 350 so that is to be expected.
I've also run a couple Edelbrocks, and holleys. Nothing wrong with any of the carbs in my opinion.

I dont know anybody with a carbed 350 that gets over 10-11mpg. Guy at work with a 350 and a performer carb/intake just like me (same carb minus choke) gets 8mpg. While I get 12-14mpg (just got 14 this last tank, and thats with all our hills here)
I dont know anybody with a carbed 350 that gets over 10-11mpgAround town maybe. I'm generally pulling about 12-13 in my 70 w/ Buick 350 and Rochester 4bbl. On the highway I can push 15 if I'm not leaking gas!! =)

Lindel: you musta had something screwed up with your carb. My jeep always starts easy. Even this morning when it was in the low 20's and snow everywhere.

I have a Road Demon 625 on my '68 Fury 383. I ran it for about a year, and was very happy with it. Very well-made item. Quality workmanship. It did everything I asked of it. However, the application was very different from a 4x4.

Edelbrocks gotta be the simplest to setup and rebuild. About two weeks before Ouray lasy year, I slapped a new 1407 750 cfm on my 401 without any more adjustment than idel speed and mixture. Didnt even put the offroad seat and needles in it and it did great throughout the whole trip even up to 13,000 ft which is pretty amazing for a carburated vehicle. Only had some slight loading up when I was held up on a trail by traffic sitting in a steep, off camber position for about 5 minutes. Brought the rpms up a little and the problem went away...............phil

I couldnt stand my Edelbrock, could get it to adjust right. Always seemed to overload.
Switched back to a holley, startes everytime right off, average about 15 MPG.
The only reason you blow power valves is if you back fire it.

I run an edlebrock on my chevy 350 and am satisfied. But ran a holley quadrajet before and just got tired of adjusting it.I have heard holley has come up with a way to stop the powervalve from blowing out now. If you must have a holley you might search for more info on this.
My Holley Truck Avenger has a "power valve saver" feature. Basically, they mill out the passage that the backfire would come through and drop a ball bearing into it. when it backfires, the ball bearing is pushed up against one end and seals the passage. This effectively stops the backfire at that point.
It's a good thing they have it or I would have had to replace a dozen or more power valves by now. redface.gif
Oh, and as far as running an Edelbrock, I probably won't. Sure it may be easier to tune and rebuild but I've seen all sorts of problems with it loading up on inclines. My Truck Avenger has taken every angle I can throw at it without skipping a beat.

Have ran both Holleys and Edelbrocks. More Holleys than Edelbrocks. Both are easy to set-up, tune, and re-build.....if you know how....but anything is easy...if ya know how.
I have the new Truck Avenger on my daily driver. Just freakin' love it. Last I checked, 16.5 mpg, cruise on, 70 mph, running 2.73s.
To each his own...

I have a 600cfm edelbrock on my 360 and It sucks to start when its cold. I have a manual choke setup and when its cold I have to screw with it for almost 10 min to maintain an idle. Everything is dialed in correctly. I have a 600double pumer holley on a 5.0 mustang that starts every time with the choke flap removed. Im going to switch the carbs and post results. I have a feeling that it will be my last edelbrock carb.Stay tuned.

My Edel: shiny, cool lookin.'
That's it.
Barely cracking double digits from mpg.
I was sloshin around a muddy lot for fun two days ago and when the front end of the snarling beast raised off the ground a foot, BAM, the engine died. It gasped for fuel then nothing.
But hey, it idles fantastic.
I want to know more about the Road Demon. Anyone?
