how can i test this. the coil has power, but isnt giving spark. this tells the coil when to spark, right?

The magnetic pickup tells the ignition module how many rpm the engine is running at. So the ignition module can tell the coil to accordingly. It can best tested with a multi meter by testing the leads comming out of the distributer, then turning the engine over to see if you get any signal.

maybe just a dead coil. got another you can swap in? if it still doesnt start , at least you the coil is ok

i have a spare coil. tested that first. nope. not that.
