Hi guys,
This just started yesterday and I assume it is fuel pump or carb.
On fuel 258 runs well on startup, wait for it to warm up and revs fine, when I put the engine under driveing load the engine sputters and misses, when I switch over to Gas the problem totally disapears and the 258 pushes hard and drives sweeet!
It has fuel as the gauge is on 1/4, the fuel filter (new) does look to be lacking in amount of fuel in it. The choke is not out as it is a manual one, I have driven over 500kms in 3 days last week and was fine.
Any ideas, Im going with feul pump but I will wait and hear what you people think.
Cheers GT71

gas gauges some times lie. my 1st step would be put a good amount of gas in the tank. it could be that the pickup sock is clogging up with sediment. or it could be the fuel pump. does it leak gas out of the hole? is the oil getting gassy? im not familiar with the 258, but on most 6s, the pumps are easy to get to. my next wag, up here they rot away fast, will be a 6.

I'd suggest a fuel prob, most likely blocked filters , cheap fix. Next I'd check timeing as there's a big difference between pertol and gas. Not sure of 6 cyl settings. Then the fuel pump. Vaccuum and spark probs show up more when using Gas then Petrol.
Check out this DIAGNOSTIC GUIDE (http://franzh.home.texas.net/diaguide.html#easy%20start) sure has helped me at times. Theres also some good links on the ANZAC IFSJA (http://home.off-road.com/~ozifsja/) site.
Wish you luck.
BTW, where did you go xmas wheeling??

Andy-Thanks for that, I think that is a good start re the fuel, I will give it a go.
Graham-Cool thing is only 1 vac line, timming is fine as had no back fires and nothing weird happen, spark is good too as gas runs fine and was fine befor on petrol. Thanks for the Diog link I will go and have a good look and bookmark it.
We went up past Wedge Island about 5/8 kms short of Grey fishing village, we were up there when the bush fires came through, was bloody hot!..... Very Spooky mate!
The truck ran great but I need to get the D20 serviced, well at least the linkages need to be sorted anyway.
Thanks again for your help and happy new year guys:)
Cheers Geoff

Maybe the fuel itself?? How old is it, is it possible you got bad fuel to begin with? You could check this by temp running a good fuel source out of a can or something.
