Okay, I found some nice 33" Cooper Dominators. Their width is 12.5". What width is the stock Grand Wagoneer wheel? How well do Cooper Dominators perform as far as mud and packed dirt? How much fender whacking will I have to do?

Also, does anybody know where I can find a metric to standard tire size chart?

Help will be much appreciated. :D

The stock Wagoneer aluminum wheels are 7 inches wide.

you won't be able to fit much of anything onto the rims that is wider than 10 inches.

for 12.5 tires you need 10 inch wide rims.

that isnt true!

i got 33-12.50 in 8 inch rims and they work fine. dont look pinched either

you can put 12.5" wide tires on the 7" rims, no problem. The downside will be slightly increased wear along the centerline of the tire; the upside - you can run them at lower pressure off road.

using 12.5" tires on 10" rims pretty much limit your tire pressure off road at 15-20 psi - any lower, and you'll start popping beads.

IMHO, 8" is a perfect rim for 12.5"-wide tire.

mine are 11.5 on 7 looks good but 12.5 might be pushing the limits.

Well, Grunt isnt driven on the street very often. Its pretty much a strictly off-road rig. The only driving on the street is to get from home to a trail, a trail to another trail, or from a trail back home. 45MPH is the fastest I attempt in that beast because its got a case of the shimmies once it hits 60. Probably just a case of unbalanced or bulged tires, but if these new tires fix it, I still will rarely drive at 60 or above.

On my 85 GW, the recomended with 4" lift is 33"X12.5" on 15"X8" Rims... But to fit they also need 3.5" backspacing on the rims...

Well, as far as clearance, Ive currently got 27" tall tires. 33" tires are 6" taller. Half on top, half on the bottom. So, the way I figure it, Ive got to get clearance for 3 more inches of tire. Ill prolly just get my clearance by chopping 3" off of my fenders.

Ya as stated above a 7" rim will work. *" rims is prefered. 10" wide rim is to wide IMHO. You will slip the bead easier when you drop the air pressure down.

If you have a shimmy instead of just a vibration, its probably worn front end parts. Unbalanced tires will vibrate but a shimmy is usually worn parts.

You will slip the beed easier on a 10" rim then with a 7-8" rim if you have a 12.5" wide tire.

I've got 33 x 12.50 on an 8" rim and they are awesome. I have heard of people with the 10" rim slipping the bead when aired down. On a 7" rim, you 33's will actually get taller, and wear the middle of the tread faster.

By the way, I am really surprised by the difference between the Chero WT and the Waggies. I put 33's on mine and didn't have to lift it at all, I did lift it 2" for more travel, but you guys have to lift to put on 31's don't you?

31x10.50's fit on a stock wag/NT chero, but its a tight fit, the tires will be above the fender lip in the back on level ground.

Just to confirm some of the points above. I am doing my research on a new set of 35x12.5 and after talking with Wholesale Performance Parts who seem to be the leaders in selling off road tires, they put 12.5" tires on 8" rims all day long and the reason they told me was because the beads stay put better at lower PSI than on a 10" rim. It's recommended buy hard core off roaders. Another thing is that the tire protecs the rim better.

Another thought is when I was running my 31x10.5's the left rear rubbed on the leading edge of the fender. This was with saggy springs that had add-a-leaf's in them. It didnt' rub on the right side but it was also a half inch higher that on the left side. Just some info from real world frame twisting fun.
