RB,
Very good, I think you might have a new career when you decide to leave the Corps. This is as good as any magazine how to that I have seen. I would submit to the FSJ mag at least.
A while back you had a post regarding the dual diaphragm from a J20. Did you ever do that or did you just go right to the hydroboost? I need some help with my brakes but I'm only running 33's so maybe the dual diaphram would suffice. Anybody ever actually do this?
Thanks,
Dennis

I was going to do the dual diaphram booster... then just when I was getting ready to... Kim (Retro93) had done this conversion and was raving of the massive braking improvement... I tossed the numbers back and forth and IF I didn't need to replace my PS pump (worn out)... it would have only run me about $60.

I know now that the HB system REALLY works well... and I am grateful to Kim for leading me in this direction....

This can be useful if you have low vacuum like I do....(cam is part of the culprit). I wasn't 100% sure that the dual Vac booster would work.... Kim GARANTEED me the HB would.... so I went with the best, sound advice... I did the HB conversion and didn't have to worry about vacuum anymore....

Todd,

Nice write up on the hydroboost swap. I'm glad that you got the same improvement in braking that I did. It is a good feeling to be able to stop without having to plan ahead isn't it? smile.gif

One thing that should be brought up is the safety issue. I know that you have mentioned this before, but it probably should be repeated again. If the swap is not done properly, you could potentially have a simultaneous partial failure of the power steering as well as the brakes. I can't stress this fact enough. This modification can be very dangerous if not done properly!

With that said..I would also highly recommed this install. Using readily obtainable junk yard parts you can greatly increase the braking power of your rig. It is simple and cost effective.

If anyone has a question concerning the mechanics involved, please don't hesitate to contact Todd or myself. Both of us LOVE to share information.

Kim

Great write up. Looks like a great option for those of us with no braking power.
