this is in an '85 FWD corolla. best place i know to ask this question, sorry http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/redface.gif

the auto tranny in said car is slipping in 2nd and reverse gears. what's this a sign of? i press the accelerator down, the engine revs up, but i don't accelerate.

so whadda i need to do? could this be the opportunity i've been waiting for to convine dad to let me drop in a chevy v6/transaxle? http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Just guessing now, 'cause I don't know that tranny, butI would guess the pressure in the circuits is too low. If this continues, then the bands/clutches will slip and wear.

Causes could be filter is dirty, fluid got overheated, fluid level is low.

Solution is probably like Andy said. If it happens again. Also check pressure control devices if there are any, in Torqueflite-speak I mean "kick down" linkage.

Just had my Camry tranny redone for same reason.... worn seals allow fluid to leak by and cause loss of pressure to engage properly... my rebuild was $1200

due to the low pressure... it also burnt the clutch plates within the shifting drum.
