June TOM will be two-fold...Part 1, Safety equipment and trail gear

Part 2: Fixing that dang emergency brake. Everyone who's e-brake doesn't work will need to sign up, then we all fix'em together, helping each other out along the way. This will make a boring task a little more fun.

So who's with me?

Sounds good to me. Remember that you will need a functioning e-brake to participate in any of the runs at Ouray.

does a line lock count as an e-brake?

OK, I'm not going to Ouray but I do need to put this ebrake all back together someday. Some day in June sounds good. Now where did I put.....

As long as adding a micro-lock to my Jeep for a parking brake counts, I'm in. Having a conglomerated vehicle is sometimes difficult to sort out.

Topics sound great.

Too bad my e-brake situation is turning out to be a little more complex than I wished for with my rear disk brake conversion

Nightflyers, can you tell me more about the disc conversion (cost, problems, benefits, etc)????

The reason I am switching to disk brakes on the rear is two-fold. First most of the parts are soon needing to be replaced, and second with 35" tires, I lack any good stopping power. Soon I will be going up to 38's so it will not get any better. I got the brackets from a guy on e-bay awhile back for 89.00. I should have consulted with him before I ordered them because his instruction and parts list are a little less than desirable. One of the big problem with his design was no provision for an e-brake.

I found that Cadillac used rear disk brakes with a provision for the e-brake cable. I still need to pick up the calipers and try to figure a way to tie it all together. I may have to make new bracket to get them to fit. Still in the works but the hopefully it will give me the extra stopping power I am looking for.

There is a company that sells a complete kit. I can't recall the name or the price at the moment, but if you are interested, I will try and look for it. I was hoping to do it cheaper than what they were asking, but at this point I'm not so sure I will hit that goal.

Before you get too far into it, have you checked with those that have done the swap? Everything I've ever heard about it from people who have done the swap said about the same thing...not much improvement for the money and time spent. I think the concensus was about a 10% increase in stopping power.

When you compare that to a hydroboost setup, you'll spend about 1/4 the cost, 1/8 the time, and increase the performance tremendously.

I haven't done either, but have listened to many in the past when I was considering the swap myself. They turned me away from it...

I have done the disc brake conversion and I love it. The stopping power is double the old drum brakes. I know alot of you are liking the hydroboost setup, I don't like the whole conscept. thats just me. It only cost me 300 in total cost for my disc brake setup.

The only broblem I have is that I fail to find working on any part of my FSJ boring. Am I wierd?

Aside from that ponderance, I too need the e-brake functional for nothing else but just pure safety.

Sitting Bull, thanks for your input. I will look into the hydroboost option and weigh my options. RB did this didn't he?

blt2crl, why didn't you like the concept? I am going to search and see what others have done. Just looking for your input. How did you do your disk brake setup?

Mines broken also. If we all do this at the same time, perhaps we could get a volume discount from the Inline Tube people for our new cables?

Nightflyers, my whole dislike is piggy backing the braking system on the powersteering system. I like to have my powersteering independent from my brakes. I know poeple have done it and love it. I'm just leary of it. I love my disc brakes. No problems stopping what so ever. I also got my brackets from the guy off of e-bay.

My e-brake is dead. Never looked to see if it is a snapped cable or just an adjustment. If it is an adjustment, where is the adj. done? TIA.

Yep, I'm in. Need both rear e-brake cables. Now why would a PO take them off in the first place?

E brake.....

it is a 2 part problem, adjustment either at the cable or the little star wheel, or the hand lever whose spring is busted and it does not hold the lever in the lock position. Been there done it.....

Cheers

On the stopping problem, I installed a '78 J-20 double diaphragm vacuum brake booster on the Camo Cow and it made a world of difference for approx $100 with anew master cylinder. I run 35's also.
