We gana try and wrangle a discount at Bighorn this year? Considering that if my woman wants to come along during the week at all, when she leaves, going to camp on the rim of that big canyon north of town, off that wide dirt road..I forget the name of it. It's right above Gemini Bridges.

Good Idea. But before I do something like that, I would like to know who is coming so I can give them an idea of how many FSJers may be staying at the Bighorn.
Maybe it is too early for some to commit. Maybe they are out Christmas shopping and missing out on planning for this important event. ;)

Count me in! Not a joke at all! My wife is taking our oldest and a group of students to France. Juliette and I plan to leave the upstate on April 12-13 at the latest.
Still working on logistics...we may fly out and rent a Jeep. We may drive whatever we have... All I know is we're headed west when their flight leaves the ground.

Plenty of jeep rentals up there. I doubt you'd want to borrow a FSJ for Moab :D Trash a rental.:fsj:

about moab:
I got really lucky on this, I didn't bring them back home. A local woman who works for BLM reported that she stayed at the Apache in late October and got 400 bites over a five day stay. They got into her things and infested the BLM vehicle she was assigned, then got into her house. Aside from the cost of exterminating her home, she was not allowed to enter her workplace for two weeks, losing income, etc. Sounds funny, but aside from the bites being about as bad as anything you'll ever experience, these little bastards can be the gift that keeps on giving.

BudBud - A rear locker is helpful but we have seen some folks run open in places you would expect to have a challenge. If our plans work out, we will have one rig with a winch.

my turn...
Luna decided to puke the master cylinder yesterday. AND, And vapor lock at about 6900 ft elevation pulling a hill and it was only 75 degrees. So now she is down at the family farm again for some more fix with new master cylinder and get the fuel replumbed to the carb with an electric pump. Today we got the new TransDapt Ford 460 adapter on the stock intake with the Holley TA. Then tidied up the cabin in the back so now the cargo panels are closed up. Before Moab, then the locker. Yes, The Locker... :o :fsj:

It was the week before Moab, all was quiet.... no way, the intake manifold decided to puke oil, removed and off to the shop -the egr bolt busted a few months ago and I fabricated a block off plate with an offset bolt- time to be serious.
Locker may be installed this weekend....

back from AZ.
may make it to the party yet, got a small water leak somewhere up by the pump but cannot tell where, may run and carry more water.
Trying to get Ken and his wife to come, their anniv. is the 22nd and they planned to go that weekend. OMG, its EJS!!! where did he think we could camp let alone get on some trails.
Talked to him wed night and he may get Bronc ready so we may make it after all. Sue and I will be in back of pickup unless we drive jeep and tow his camper.
Need to look at steering on jeep yet, may need new box or whatever, it wanders on the road pretty bad again.
Neither of us are locked but willing to try.
Crossing our fingers, if we do it will be Fri/Sat/Sun unless we get another plan going then Sue/I could be there earlier, Ken and Marie for weekend without kids. Joe HIGHLY doubtful, his ride is his DD.

I made a very similar port on the Colorado FSJ Association
list.
I have April 15 through April 19.
I need back to work on Wednesday April 20 at 1:00
I'd like to drive out and visit with some folks
I am in need of another road trip to escape the madness of my little world.
Appears it is 1500 miles each way. (24 hours windshield time) :drivin::(
So, are you guys camping somewhere?
Would I need a reservation? ...for a tent?
Can I bring my dog?
Would you fellows allow a '99 WJ to park among the FSJ?
Comments, Opinions, Suggestions and Flames are appreciated.

1500 miles each way takes dedication for such a short time being there bro!
Bring it on, bring your dog if you want.
Do a search for camping in Moab and find out if they allow dogs if you want to be in town, otherwise you can camp out on BLM or whatever lands for free.
WJ okay by me, bring what ya got.
Wife and I and son/daughter in law will be camped north of town, just south of the airport, second road to the left (west) after bridge over RR tracks, there is a couple trees there and dry river bed that I like to drive in, all sand.

Pack the jeep, grab the credit cards, and get rolling tonight :) You won't regret it.
You should be able to hit the CO border in one LONG day, sleep, and take I-70 over past Grand Junction and skip down to Moab in another half day and be checked in a room by dinnertime. Took me 11 hours to hit Cozad, Nebraska from South Bend area doing 70+, then it's another 4 to Denver.

Well...you'd run into nothing but EJS freaks from Saturday to Saturday..we're wheeling Sat but most are leaving Sunday morning.
Hotel rooms will be unavailable by the weekend...thousands of people swarm Moab next week. We're going early to blaze the trails for the baby jeeps with our ATF drippings :)

I had to swap a mid 80's mine was starting to rust from the EGR to the cooling ports and of course most fittings are different, at least the engine started on 3rd try after being mothball for a year... well 14 months.... but the temp gauge failed.... redlined.... The real temp was good -infrared thermometer- but this and that... yes at $4.15 a gallon.... then the voltage was not up to par.... at least I found a loose connector behind the dash.... the spare gauge cluster is good.... temp is in the middle and gas gauge is working....
Still need a few things and a test run.... Tomorrow I will decide.... it is always a pleasure to meet everybody.... I'll probably go to Phil's spot for camping which is my favorite staging for off road motorcycle.

Hope to see you! I'll be camping at Phils Rowdy Roundup Camp Friday night! Have a safe trip if you decide to come! At least on the bike you can skip out into the wilds and avoid the baby jeepers...or ride around them..someday I'll fix up my dirtbike and take it up there.

I can't remember what mile marker on 191 where Mill Canyon cuts off but its north of 313 about 3-4 (?) miles to the west, its on a corner and the RR tracks are right there, can't miss it, its the only place I know where you can camp north of Moab that has a tree!!!
Coming south on 191 its the second road to the right past the airport.
Decent place, close to Wipeout and the river bed is all sand so fun to drive in it day or night.
Michel stayed with us one time and think he liked getting fed breakfast and dinner.

The company was excellent, and I really enjoyed the breakfast and dinner, especially on that cold night, thank you for the warm welcome.

Yes, it seems like I have too much on my plate... I do not have as much energy as a few years ago... So I may save my time for Ouray.... and I will have the locker installed. Have fun I will miss the camaraderie.
Which bike do you have?

Pack the jeep, grab the credit cards, and get rolling tonight :) You won't regret it.
You should be able to hit the CO border in one LONG day, sleep, and take I-70 over past Grand Junction and skip down to Moab in another half day and be checked in a room by dinnertime. Took me 11 hours to hit Cozad, Nebraska from South Bend area doing 70+, then it's another 4 to Denver.
Sounds like you were going a little faster than 70:p

Oh awesome! I think you'll enjoy Ouray even more than Moab. Lots more people, high altitude play area, community camping.
I havent looked at it for a year or so, IIRC its 77 Kawasaki 125. No title for it so it's a pirate bike.

Locker is jacked up. Going back into the rear axle for round two today. I love last the minute insanity before a Jeep trip. :p

As much as I need a road trip (road trip = escape) and as much as I think about some of you fine folks that I not met yet and really want to...
...I am not coming out West this time.
After I engaged my brain...it does not good make sense to drive out for a few hours visit.
(common problem for me...mouth runs wide open while brain is in neutral)
1500 miles out and 1500 miles back with my WJ getting 16ish MPG would take ~190 gallons of gas.
Gas at $4 gallon would cost me $~750
...plus food, plus a room....would be an easy $1000.
I would leave Fort Wayne, IN Friday morning at 6AM...arrive in Moab sometime Saturday morning.
So, I would miss you fellows wheeling on Saturday.
Would get to visit with you Saturday evening, have dinner, maybe share a breakfast with you on Sunday...then head back.
Sounds kinda crazy.
I will find another escape close to home...maybe another trip to Put-in-Bay, OH and the Lake Erie Islands.
I will begin to plan now for a Ouray, CO trip.
Maybe I will see you then.

would have been nice to have you here but from what you explained your decision is the right one for sure.
I'm dealing with a house in AZ that has issues so am working with an agent to get them resolved, got to.
May not get it all worked out today so Thursday may seem better timing, I don't know.
Of course being on the internet is not getting things done for leaving for Moab either.

I talked to Johnny Brown. There was a slip of paper we did not get or see or something. It goes on about another measurement with internal spacers and the cross pin. The Lockright was too tight in that shaft alignment and we broke it. :( Broke it good. One of the holes for the springs busted out and the 4 pins were chaffed pretty bad. Johnny Brown says it can shear the 4 pins off with too tight fit. The measurements on the Detroit EZ Locker was much more to spec based on the Lockright doco. The EZ has crap doco because it contain no directions for the tolerances to check. The EZ works like a frakking champ. Churned it 3 wheelin in red rock sandy creek bottom. Got the electric fuel pump set up and new filters. Fixed breather tubes for rear axle. Idled it up a little for off camber. Brakes checked out good. She is loaded on the trailer behind the F350 and sitting out front ready to take off. Gonna be strokin' it to get out by 6:30-7:00 for Moab. I expect 9-9:30 arrival.
I am beat up but smiling all the way. :fsj: The magic rain locker is calling me...

after getting most of the AZ house stuff done got Kens camper over to Moab
but not at usual spot. Guess they are cracking down on where you camp so managed to find a site further in on Mill Canyon road, kinda. That spot at tree is on private land so went up the road a bit, drive up to Mill Canyon turn off but don't go that way, continue on to Halfway Stage Station turn off but don't go that way either, then there is a small dip and just as you start up the little climb from the dip turn left to our new camp spot.
Would haave gotten back soon enough to get jeep loaded and back over there but had some problems with the camper on the way so made it back to GJ about 1115 pm and too tired to load up. Will hit it early I hope and be over there by 8-9 so will meet all in town if I can. You all know what this heap looks like.
had to herd the cows away but it is marked for camping not cowing.
