Ok, does a 42 tooth gear sound right for an NP208 with 4.10 and 31s? Stock was 2.73s and 235/75s and a 30 tooth gear. If someone could double check me before I order a gear that'd be great.

Thanks,
Anthony

Do a search for speedo calibration posted by me. I posted a chart that will give you what you are looking for.

Thanks for the reply but those don't help me any because they aren't for the NP208. They're both for XJs, which I think are either 207s or 231s...

all New process transfer cases will use the same gearing!! The gear that I bought could be used in a ford or chevy, or a 208!!

Hi Cecil...
You need a 36 tooth gear.

Speedo Gear Page (http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cherokee/98/07_jul/speedo/speedo.html)

Also...
NewProcess/Venture 208, 228, 229, 231, 241, 242 cases use the same speedo gears, but not all 207's did. Some use a much smaller gear that is not available in many sizes. I have one of these in my yj and had to get an external gearset to recalibrate.

I have an 82 j-10 and just put 410's and an auburn posi in it last week. I too have to replace the gear. I have the NP208 and the 727 tranny which I think was stock at 373. Tires are the same as yours. I should hear from the shop guys about what gear I need and it should match yours. Either way I post it tomorrow. I have a question for you though. Is this gear change something I can do or does the shop have to do it. The shop guys say it is a shop job.....go figure. What do you say?

It takes a 1/2" open end and about 5 mintues. The shop guy wants your money. Find out what gear you need then get it and do it yourself.
