I keep hearing a noise on my 84 GW, it sounds like the fan hitting the radiator, but it's coming nowhere close, the fan isn't hitting anything. I know this post was kinda vague, but hopefully somebody might know.
btw, it has a 258 w/auto

Does the sound come from front of engine or back?
Or is it somewhere else, even?
Does it go away when you put it in gear....even partly away? If so, it could be your torque converter to flexplate bolts coming loose. Makes a weird squeeling sound.
Could also be a starter hanging, if it's coming from back of engine.
If from front, could be a pulley going bad, or a waterpump about to go.

it's really hard to trace, it seems to be the worst at mid RPM, I'm still looking into it between cloudbursts, it sounds like it's coming from the front, in gear or out makes no differnce, it may just be something unimportant, but I don't like to tempt fate.

I found it!!!! It's an exhaust leak, didn't sound like one, but it is. The small tube running from the catalytic converter to the manifold has a bunch of small holes in it, right where it crosses under the tranny pan. If anybody has one, let me know. As for the motor mounts, I checked those first, learned my lesson after my Chero put the fan through the shroud.
Thanks a bunch
