here's the dope

86 bronco 5.0 302 EFI AOD
100k on engine

here's the cause

revved engine to 3k rpm for extended time ( 10 minutes - parked)

after 10 minutes seems to hear a very slight pop and then seems to go to 7 cylinders. started missing. missing bad enough that there is no idle when warm. it will idle at cold temp, but once it warms up, no idle.

here's what i did:

thought perhaps i fouled out a plug or two. did complete tune up. (last tune up was 30+k ago)
installed new plugs, cap, rotor, wires. (and filters).

still misses, not as bad. idles with miss @ cold temp, but once it gets warm, no idle. seems overly rich running. rich enough to shoot carbon out the tail pipe, which it never does.

my thoughts are it has jumped time and gears are the order of the day.

any thoughts from you guys?

huh, that's just odd. I'd look into a possible vacuum leak and then check the timing. Hope it's nothing major. Why did you have it reved for 10 minutes?????

go back to basics

problem resolved
simple enough
i can go drink a few beers now ... or .. hmm maybe that was the problem to start with :D

i'm going to blame this on bi-focals!

the main vac line to the intake was frikey-fried on the the pasenger side manifold ...

YIPPEE ... i'm selling this b1tch just as soon as i can! tongue.gif

Idle Air Control or EGR is what I'd look at first.
I can't imagine it's the timing chain cuz of the temperature issue.

does it have the variable ventri carb on it ???? if so check the vacum diaphram in the back of the carb
