My stock 89 GW has 4 year old Monroe LT shocks... seems to be worse "porposing" over mostly smooth roads. Trying to decide on Edelbrock perfomer IAS shocks or Rancho Relfex RSX, anybody got any feedback, Would like alittle smoother ride if possible?

I have gone through Monroe's, Nitro's and Rancho's. It's all a matter of taste... but bang for the buck in my humble opinion... Rancho 5000's. You can buy more expensive and you can get prettier boots but they work and work well. I would go back to the Skyjacker steering stabilizer if (when) I do it again. Not quite as stiff and allowed the wheel to return to center with less effort.

The RSX is supposed to be the best of both worlds but for the money the 5000's are a **** good shock

I have used different shocks in the past, but the best that I have found that I can afford are the RS5000's. I wanted the RS9000's but couldn't afford them. I will buy the RS5000's next time arround when I go to the double shocks all the way around. I like them, very good shock for the price.

Bought RS9000's a few months back when Summit Racing was having a buy 3, get 1 free sale on them - best purchase I've made for the Wag yet, it's just nice to be able to dial in the backs depending on what kind of load you have.
I wonder what kind of difference it would make if you put the rs5000's in the front and rs9000's in the back?

I have the 9000's. Went with the 3+1 free deal that DogsWag got. Sept my deal was through the Goodyear stealer hear. They are great. The ride down the highway is awsome and when it comes to the trail they really take a beating.
What I really would like to get for my Dakota is the RSX's when they have them available. The sound like the iceing I've been looking for. Over $200 buck though. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif

I STILL have a full set of nearly-new (~100 miles) Deutsch Tech shocks I got from Veepster about three months ago, and they're up for grabs. They'll only work if your rig is lifted which is why I didn't install them. If you need 'em, I'm asking $100 (including shipping) which is what I paid for them.

$200 for a shock?? OUCH!!
The 5000 Ranchos work real well for the price. Make sure you get the correct length for your rig so that you don't bottom out the shocks or lose articulation.

I have had good luck and happy with the Heckethorn Nitro shocks.
I purchased four including the boots for less than a $ 100.00 from J C Whitney.
You can also order these shocks in plus sizes to suit your lift or other needs.

a Rancho 5000 ia the same as a Rancho 9000 on setting #3(there are 5 settings).......and that is a great idea!!! I have had 2 different trucks(4x4 Ranger and my FSJ) and they have both used 9000's on setting #3 in the front!!!....so hey buy 2 5000's for the front and 2 9000's on the rear.........that will save a few bucks!!!

It would seem that nobody has addressed the rancho shocks you asked about. It really boils down to what you use your wagon for. It sounds like mostly a street ride with moderate off-road. If this is the case, I think rsx reflex would be perfect for you and the price is better than the Edelbrocks. If your going for serious unpaved action you might consider the 9000's, they are adjustable for the situation at hand.

hey everyone just to clear this up ,the rsx's and the edelbrocks are totally differant form each other ,the rsx's are made to be kind of an auto offroad shock where as the edel's are made more twards on road auto mode ,read and studied both and they are total oppisites (sp)so if you want something you don't have to adjust ,go with the rsx's ,and the're cheaper because they don't say "edelbrock " remember ,your paying mostly for the name .i'm a automotive tech so i really study this type of stuff . http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/cool.gif

ill have to agree the rancho 5000 are prolly the best bang for the buck.i have tem on the rear of my eagle.lots of travel, not bouncy.
didnt have $120 to spend on shocks for the GW,so im running the cheapie red ryder shocks from the 'Zone.i had to dig thru their shock book to find the length with the ends i needed, but theyre working out real well.i could still use a longer one on the front, sort of goofed in the measuring.
9.99 and a lifetime warranty.i didnt really care so much about the ride,i just needed something.with 38s,no sway bar/trac bar and 15 year old stock, very soft springs, you can expect to loose some streetability. for what it is it rides ok on the street,so the 'Zone shocks cant be so bad !
