Alright, well first off my J-10 losing power, mainly only on the freeway around 45-60 MPH. It wouldn’t happen all the time; I could drive for 20 minutes some times without this problem. At first I thought that it was a fuel problem, so I started by replacing the fuel filter. This did no good, then I replaced the fuel pump, this did no good. After that I replaced the cap and rotor, thinking that it was an electrical problem. Still nothing. Then I drove all day up in the woods, it ran like **** the whole day, surprisingly it made it home. I left to go to work, it backfired on me twice on the way to work and I didn’t even make it to work. Towed it home and brought it to the shop the next day. At the shop they found that there was a large vacuum leak from the rear of the carburetor and the carburetor was way out of adjustment. They fixed both of those and it seemed to run fine until I went on the freeway the next day and the lose of power problem was still happening. I took it to the shop that day and they found that the plug wires were somehow getting condensation in them. So later that day I replaced the spark plugs, and the plug wires. The truck ran great for 2 whole days then I started to get a very similar lose of power problem but it was a bit different. It was happening all of the time, going 2 mph or 70 mph. This went on for about 2 days, so I decided to make sure that the plug wires were still plugged in just fine, which they were. It ran great for about 15 minutes, then the same problem began again. 2 more days later, I took the plug wires off, and made sure that all of the spark plugs were still in tight, which they were. I took it for a test drive, ran great for about 10 minutes then the problem started again. This is where I am stuck.

Anyone know what the problem could be? I will not be around until tomorrow morning if anyone has any questions, ill be sure to check ASAP.

Thanks,
Bryan

Choke sticking closed, maybe. I finally got around to adjusting mine, like a new truck now. Any black smoke, or other sympthoms along with this power loss?

We had a F*RD Taurus that did that.

I finaly found out that the Catalytic converter(spell) was pluged up. So I torched a hole in the very front of it to drive it to the muffler shop.

The funny part is I told the kid I had an apointment to replace it. Well he had it on the hoist for 5 minutes and told me it was all better now. Huh??? Yeah he says I welded up that big hole in it!? Hahaha! :D Ooops! It's pluged up....I made that hole 'cause its so bad it has no power.

If it has a cat still it might be worth checking.

Psst... I HATE CATS!!!!!

I would check and clean the conections on the coil and dist. seems to run good for awhile anytime you mess around them. Maybe just concidence but worth a look. ( not the plug wires the small wires on the low voltage side )

No black smoke since i got the carb adjusted, and its not the cat, there nothing in it anymore, it all blow out after the back fireing.....i should prolly replace it, but its just like a hollow pipe now.

Ill check the conections on the coil, and what is the dist. Country Boy?

Thanks!
