Came across this on my way out to my girlfriends place. The guy seems to think he's sittin on gold because its all original with around 30,000 miles. Tornado under the hood with what appeared to be an automatic behind it. Looks alright at about 20 feet, the closer you get the more gnarly she looks. The floors are completely rusted through, bed has more holes than swiss cheese, doors look like they were left outside for a decade, seat was reupholstered with duct tape, and it doesn't even run due to a lack of radiator. So tell me fellas, being in the midwest, think this artifact of automotive archaeology, am I wrong in thinking that this is a bit over priced?

Doesnt run? Rusted out? Missing parts doesnt mean its original anymore IMO...$500 max

I wouldn't even pay $500 for it with an unknown powertrain condition and no floorboards. Although you could probably part it out and get some decent cash for the grill and front bumper. But still not worth more than $500

Just remembered it had a clutch pedal, but it had a column shifter. Did any fsj's come with on-the-tree manual transmissions?

Yes, that was the other thing I meant to mention. It is probably a 3 on the tree.

Don't ask value here! Nobody ever thinks they are worth a darn yet we all prize our jeeps so much.

Boils down to this: Somebody is going to buy this thing. make him and offer. The Rhino grill and components are worth $250 or more. the original wheel covers dependin on condition about another $100. The jeep symbols another 50-100 bucks.

go there with 12 $100 dollar bills. Flash 7 or 8 of them in front of him. you have a crappy economy, Christmas And Cash on your side
Show up with a trailor so he knows your serious. this is a "Get it done in one trip proposition". if he doesn't accept your offer, thank him politely don't insult him and leave your # should he be interested in reconsidering. And leave. You're not making friends your buying a truck. Hope I don't sound arrogant but I buy and sell stuff often and have fun doing it.
Best of luck to you.

Chris, thank for your tip. I buy and sell myself. I'm always looking for advice.

For all I know, the truck has just been put up for sale. I would bet you that if this truck was on E Bay, the seller would be lucky to get $800 for it. Oh not to mention E Bay fees....

It'll just take too much time to part it out. At the worse, the engine is shot or need a rebuild.

I don't even think this truck is worth $750.

Really? Not to me..Just another pile of rust. Might be worth something if it had a v8, 4spd.. Rhino worth something sure but what about getting rid of the rest of it?

It looks pretty darn rusty.

The early drivetrain is not very desirable ... You'd only keep it if you wanted to restore the truck, and I don't think it's a desirable enough car to warrant fixing a rusty example.

As trucks, the late 60s and '70s look basically the same and have a much better drivetrain. Kind of hard to justify this one if you want to drive it.

:D I would give $1,500 to take it straight to the crusher
I wouldn't save one nothing zip zero nada nothing crush the whole thing

Why you might ask ? the fewer FSJ's in existence the more yours is worth ;)
Just simple grade school math supply & demand

TREASON!!!!

But for real, yeah I thought it was wayyyy over priced when he said that. He said he had some hits on people wanting it to tow their classic boats... or whatever. To get that classic look I guess. But we'll see how long it sits there. Should anyone decide to go have a look for themselves its in Malta Illinois, South of rt 38 on Second street right by the railroad tracks. The guys got all kinds of good stuff. An AMX with a 390 sporting 30,000 original miles, an international traveall with a 401... lots of goodies.

I see some somewhat rear parts.

Factory looking winch bumper, hard to find 16" 5 lug wheels.

It's a J300 with a big back window, looks fairly solid and complete.

I'd toss $6-700 at it if the 230 wasn't frozen. And I wanted to get kicked out of my house.

Yep. The MJs look like every other mini truck the 80s produced (Yotas, S-10s, Rangers, Nissans, ect) That J has looks, class, and style. Id like to see anything out of the 80s in that good of shape after 40+ years.

:D You being way to picky i think, I'd toss a radiator in it and drive it another 20 years or more . . . Like i said its a by far better looking truck then the Jeep i drive every day

If all it need was a radiator to make start run drive steer and stop with working lights i'd go $1,250 all day long . . .

Cheapo-style warn winch bumper-200
rhino setup-200
wheel covers-40 (sold a set shipped just like that, maybe better for that much)
interior odds and ends-50

that's about what it's worth.

Ryan, that looks to be a factory offered (dealer installed) Ramsey PTO winch bumper. Just like the one I have on my 71. They had two versions, the cheper one (like mine and this one) re-used the stock 3-peice bumper.

But yeah, still only worth $200 or so. PTO is worth another $2-300 if it's still there.

I'm in the 500 max range if the motor is not frozen. Way to much work to get it restored. Nothing really useable to me on anything else. But if I could get it running, it would make a decient beater truck........

Ramsey, right. Yeah remembered someone said this version when you got it re-used the stock outer bumperettes. It's neat, I'd run it in a heartbeat. Shame the PTO is gone.
