It seems like some guys have possibly done this swap in their FSJ's but I couldn't seem to find any build threads/info on how the swap went on the forum. If such a thread exists could someone point me in the right direction? I'm considering either a cummins swap or the dodge 5.9L swap at this time and trying to gather info.
Thanks

If you have the ability to do a diesel swap, I'd suggest that. With the new E15 regulations, I'm so disgusted with regular gas, that I can't stand it. I'm almost ready to trade in my Magnum for a diesel pickup. Go gas engine with a propane conversion, or go diesel.

FWIW the Dodge 360 is not the same as the AMC 360.

And both the mid '90s Dodge gas and diesel engines are 5.9L.

My first question would be why? do you have a Mopar 360 sitting around and need a motor? in that case, why not. I found a core AMC 360 for $100 and am having it rebuilt. The AMC will make plenty of power with a 4bbl.
I would imagine you'll need motor mounts, a Mopar 727, and probably a bunch of other crap too.
Good luck with it. Besides the money, i'd try to find a Hemi to put in with a carburetor but that's just pipe dreams.

I am in the middle of this swap right now - first generation Cummins 5.9 - into a 1976 Cherokee Chief. I havent updated any pictures lately but if I can be of any assistance please let me know.
The drivetrain is mounted up in the Jeep frame, and I am working on the dashboard and bodywork right now. Im no bodyman so it is taking a lot longer than I expected - the wife has a lot to do with the lack of time as well of course.
BTW I chose the Cummins because I am planning on running alternative fuels, and this generation is mechanical and therefore dont need a laptop to work on it.

I understand the Dodge 360 is not the same as the AMC 360. I was asking about a dodge 360 swap including drivetrain to simply gain an overdrive tranny as well as fuel injection. I also understand the power from the dodge 360 is probably equivalent to the AMC 360. Just would like the jeep to be more of a daily driver than what it is right now.
Most likely if I do a swap it will be the cummins 5.9L instead of the gas 5.9L.
On a side note besides the 700R4 what other transmissions have overdrive without using a computer?

AW4 is computer controlled but the electronics are completely standalone. Treat them like a mechanical component that hangs from some wires and it'll function fine. You don't need to get into the electrics at all, just transplant. You can get into them if you want though - lots of cool mods out there for them.
AW4 won't live behind a Cummins. It will behind a mild AMC or Dodge 360.
