These directions are based on installing a Powertrax Lock-Right into an 88 GW with a Dana 44 30 Spline rear end with an open differential and 3.31 gears (thick ring gear).
Tools Needed: Common handtools, torque wrench, slide hammer and adapter (rent Auto Zone 37.00), 5/32 punch 6 inches long.
Procedure: Place on jackstands, remove tires, brake drums, rear diff cover, four bolts that hold axle into housing. Attach slide hammer to wheel studs and hammer away. Pull out approximately six inches. Remove roll pin with punch so that you may pull out large cross shaft. Remove bearing cap on left and right side of carrier. Pull entire carrier out of housing (may require a crows foot, be gentle). Mark ring gear location on gear and housing with a punch. Remove 10 bolts on ring gear and tap gear off with a mallet (not a hammer). Pull cross shaft out of housing and remove all spider gears and shims. Shims will be re-used make sure you remeber what side they came from. Follow Lock-Right directions for specific directions on installation of their system. There instructions are good and it is easy. After Lock-Right is in carrier, replace cross shaft and roll pin, ring gear and place entire carrier back into housing. Re-torque bearing caps on carrier. Slide axles back inot the axle tubes, tighten four bolts on each side of axle, re-install drums, adjust rear brakes if needed, install tires. Spin tires with someone holding one to check and see if it is operating properly. It should click when one wheel is held and the other one is spinning, also it should be spooled when one wheel is spun. After this verification, install rear differential cover and fill with gear oil. The carrier needed to be removed because the cross shaft interfered with the ring gear(aka thick ring gear). Not all installs will be exactly like this, but this is how mine turned out. If you have a thin ring gear, the cross shaft will not interfere and you should not have to pull out the carrier.

Good job.......where did you get your Powertrax from?

Here is an article I found. I know it's not a FSJ one, sorry but it does have some info about the Powertrax.
