I have been driving Daisy a bit today and with all the insulation/peal and seal/ radial tires/ etc. I noticed a drive shaft vibration at around 73-80mph.
I know with these older rides that these speeds can be pretty high.

So the question is??? I'm guessing you want to know what it might be, right? U joints, splines, or bent shaft..check them out. Or tcase wear...

Well its a very slight vibration and goes away at 80.
I was thinking u joints.
Just looking for an opinion

well have the tires and wheels checked, then i would go and check the u joints, then maybe check your front rotors(if your year has them) then see if the drive shaft is in balance.

Its old iron brother, 1970.
new brakes/ new tires/ Bearings repacked.
It only has 42k miles on it,
I will make a pretty good assumption its the u joint/ stiff and dried up grease. Wont be a problem putting another one on.

You can go 73-80 with 3.73 gears?
I got up to 82 MPH on my last engine with 3.54s, and that's when it maxed out.

I get that vibration and it goes away after 70ish. I have only taken it to 85 on occasion as it is not a sports car. I know it is my U joints and my question about this is. I have a 88 GW that I saved the driveshafts with new U joints installed. Can I use them without causing another problem. I always mark location when taking driveshafts out, because I always read that it is necessary. I am not trying to Hijack this thread, but have same problem. Thanks in advance

Yes you can just dont confuse the caps. I really like u joints that can be regreased and rebuilt.
Would I? No. Reusing old parts that i didnt buy new is a big no no.

I installed the ujoints onto the 88 driveshafts and drove about 300 miles before cracking the frame on a stone wall on a ice patch(not in 4wd at time). Can I transfer driveshaft with new u joints installed to my 89. Or should I get new U joints and Use the 89 driveshafts. Trying to cheat here. Thanks in advance.

You should be ok to swap shafts but compare the two just to be sure..

Thanks for the advice. I miss driving my rusty old 88GW.

The 88 & 89 should interchange just fine. I took the front shaft out of an 85 GW and put it into my 77 J-10 for the same reason...:D
