Hey guys, wondering whats wrong with my rear axle.
I come to y'all for help and advice.
Recently, I had a Trac-lock installed in my rear D44. Today, I finally got to drive it on the street. Well...upon deceleration/coasting, I heard a rattling, but more likely chattering.
The guy who installed it, probably has 40+ years setting up gears. He told me to go to the dealership and get some friction modifier.
I, however, had some extra RedLine fully synthetic gear oil with the friction modifier additive in it. So, I poured it in instead smile.gif
I'm hoping that y'all could tell me if I made a mistake.
I went back today to the shop where the guy installed it and asked a younger guy there what he thought. He seemed to think there wasn't enough Friction Modifier in the RedLine to prevent the chattering. So, I drained the fully synthetic stuff and went to regular old gear oil and bought a tube of the LSD addictive at the 'Zone. The sound didn't go away...
I'm at ends because I used this RedLine in my old TJ which also had a Trac-Loc. It didn't make the noise that my current D44 is making.
Did the guy set my gears up wrong and should I pull the axle and start over?
Or should I wait till Monday morning and get the friction modifer and try that?
Please help, cause I'm gonna need my truck for the upcoming week and need to make arrangements....
BTW...the u-joints are new and have been greased.
TIA
