View Full Version : Speedometer Not Working Please Help?
Heres the deal. I just replaced my 229 Transfercase on my 88 G Wag and now the speedometer doesn't work. Is there a special way to place the cable into the transfer case? I just started spinning the cable onto the transfercase input for the cable. Or is it possible the unit inside the transfercase does not work? If that is the scenario how is it to get out and is there anything special to know?

The gear in the transfer case is off-center in the mounting hole in the case. I guess that was to allow different sizes of gears. Anyway, I loosened the bolt holding the gear in place and moved it around in 1/4 turns until it began to work (I think there are index markings on it). Also the inner cable sometimes wears and won't fully connect with both the cruise control sensor and the transfer case. That part is about $4 at the parts store.
Thanks will check it out.

Try to pull out the inside shaft of the cable as much as possible, and slide that into the t-case fitting before you thread on the collar. There's enough slide room inside the cable that if you don't line it up and start it first, the cable won't seat in the t-case, and the speedo won't work.
Thanks Anti-C, i think i pushed it in when I removed it. I didn't want it to get gunked up, I will take it out and pull the cable out and re-install. Thanks alot.
