Any '72 or newer AMC 304, 360 or 401 will bolt right in as long as you use the proper flexplate.
If it came from a Jeep originally equipped with a TH400 transmission, you would need to remove a spacer sleeve in the crankshaft pilot hole, but that's it.

Several years ago I swapped a small block Chrysler engine into a J-10 truck with no issues. Had to use a Chrysler 727 case and swap the Jeep 727 mainshaft and adapter into it. The rest was a pretty straightforward swap.
Sold it to a FSJ club member and I think he swapped it out for a Chevy drivetrain.
chrysler motors have a different bolt pattern. If you used a TF727 made for a Chrysler motor you could. AMC has a different bell housing and different bolt pattern.

I am in the middle of swapping a 318 into my '83 wag and so far it has been just like FSJeeper said except I'm struggling a little with motormounts.
