View Full Version : Did I screw something up?

Sense my a/c has been out of commission since before got my jeep I decided to remove the vents in the interior. On the right side is the a/c motor. I thought this only controlled the A/C and not the heat. But now when i turn my heat/defrost on nothing happens. There were three hoses that had to be cut on the right side as well. One that was supposed to go to my compressor, which wasn't hooked up anyway. The other two went to my internal trans. cooler which is not hooked up either because I have an external one. I don't really mind not having defrost and heat because neither worked well. Just concerned now that there may be coolant going to those lines and just leaking all over my engine and the ground. So is that motor just for my ac or for my heat too?

Your heater/defrost fan motor is on the outside of the cab by the right hand hood mount. The interior fan motor only runs the a/c. You may have inadvertantly cut a wire or something.

Also now is the time to make that a/c comp into an onboard air system! It is easy to do and then it will run your air tools and make it easy and quick to air up your tires. There is nothing like going to the boneyard and freaking people out by pulling out the air hose and impact to remove parts.

I looked in Haynes last night and figured there was no way what we did could affect the heating system. I tried my defrost today and it worked! Now it works sometimes but not everytime I try it. I guess it was an unrelated problem. After all, it has been at least 4 months since I tried to heat or defrost. Not sure about on-board air. I would consider it but I'm not really sure how to do it.

If you really want to know e-mail me and I will send you a detailed way to do it. There is an article in the library but it IMO leaves a little to be desired. It is not bad but it is missing a couple of features and costs a lot more than my method.

i will second the idea of on board air. if the compressor is on your engine use it! it really is easy to hook up. you will be the cooles guy in the woods if someone pops a bead, and you whip out your air hose to pop it back on! plus the busting out the impact and air ratchet to remove parts(i like that one, jeepbob http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif ) most people just dont know what to think. my friend even has a hose real permantly mounted in his hatch.
