Here's a good week's worth of work on the front grill support. I've got plenty yet to do on the vehicle, since there are still rocker panels to re-weld, doors to patch, etc.
But my thinking on this is that, since I'm going to paint the grill support a different color (an OEM burgundy color called "grenadine metallic clearcoat"), I should paint it that color before beginning the sequence of work on the other parts.
The front fenders, which are going to be painted the original grey ("dover gray metallic clearcoat"), have a bit of a lip that fits around either side of the front grill support.
My other thought is that painting the grill support could be a headache in the event that I ding it up while fitting the fenders, grill bracket, rhino grill, headlamps (4 of them), turn signals, and bumper back into place.
Would appreciate any input or advice on how to proceed. (Last car I painted was a Porsche 928... with a can or two of Krylon. Ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend should've kept his mouth shut one night...)
Incidentally, the sequence of work you see in the following photos is the grill support panel after stripping the paint and grinding off the mounts for the '88 plastic grill; body filler patchwork; three coats of DuPont VariPrime Self-Etching Primer (greenish color); and four coats of DuPont Uro Primer (polyurethane, sandable, with plenty of patchwork between coats).
What can I say? I'm picky and have too much time on my hands.
