Does anyone have any experience with Radiator Express? I need a new rad for my chief and I want to know if this is a good place to shop. They have one for $159. Thanks

I have not dealt w/ them, but please allow me to relate something my radiator guy said to me...

RG: yer rad is shot, you need a new one

Me: oh my! {edited}

RG: if you are gonna keep this rig you should put in a modine 581, if yer gonna get rid of it, we'll getcha a cheap one

Me: I'm keepin her.

RG: ok then.

If thats a modine radiator, I think you're getting a better price than I paid, {even if you throw in $20 for shipping} if its not the modine then...

good luck,
RObert

I have dealt with radiators.com for 3 years.
The plus
they replace it anytime for free (they even refund shipping ), just keep the box that it came in originally

the downside

their quality sucks, looks like they just re-braze the returns and send them out again, I have had 4 returns, 2 due to the bottom tank cracking on the steering gear nut, and 2 because the radiator developed leaks and seal problems around the top tank.

Lesson learned,
better to shell out and buy a good Modine unit for a bit more than have to replace rads every 4-6 months,
suck it in and buy new name brand

Barring an emergency or hard-to-find part, I'd feel better buying a radiator from a person. Instinct/information/and proximity all go out the window if you buy a radiator from an online stranger and you don't even know what state it's from half the time at these places.
Trust your smarts, find a rad in the city.
My 2 paranoid cents anyway, Brent

I worked in a radiator shop for 4 years when i was younger. I have gotten two radiators from carparts.com for under $200. Both were Modine and have held up very well. I would suggest you try to find out what brand they are before buying from anyone online. Some of the online radiator are from mexico (very poor quailty).

The guy said they were made by Modine and Transpro. What kind of answer is that? They have the standard 3 core (row?) rad or a 4 row for a little more money. Which is better?
BTW thanks for the info on radiators.com. I thought their website was a little cheesy and this just confirmed my suspicions.

a 4 core radiator provides more cooling power than a three core. Very nice with a/c or towing, but sucks if you live in climate because the engine may never warm up in the winter.

We sell OEM replacements at www.bjsoffroad.com, (http://www.bjsoffroad.com,) but our price is $170 plus shipping (after discount). So, it is a little more than radiator express & radiators.com, but it's a factory replacement. I think our quality will be better than either of those companies.......but then again, I'm biased! ;)

i just picked up a radiator from radiator express about a week ago, but it was for a 4 cyl ram 50 pickup. It was cheaper than their "name brand" model, and it's cheap looking. But I think it'll work.

In my Jeep I'm on my 4th radiator now, I think the last two saw about 15 miles a piece. Nothing wrong with the radiators, my fan just always seems to win... Anyway, I can always find a cheap replacement from a parts jeep or junkyard... and that's my solution. I got a 4 row for $40, and a 3 row for free.
