Is the OX made for an AMC 20 yet? How much is the OX? Even though the ARB is expensive it would also provide OBA which would help justify its cost. I don't need to run air tools, just inflate up my tires.
Can a good shade tree guy install either of these or am I going to have to pay someone?

A ARB wont provide OBA to run air tools and such.. The compressor is a smaller one designed just for the locker afaik (unless I amm misstaken). If you have OBA then you can also use that for the locker.
As for the OX, its made for the D30, D35, and D44. With a D60 version comming soon here.

The ARB site said it would work to inflate tires. I can't see the point in carting around my air tools (Maybe a nice paint job out in the woods?). Anyone know how fast it can inflate tires?

ya,you obviously havent had to replace axleshafts,or weld broken leaf springs together in the woods yet. air tools are very handy to have. i always have an impact,cut-off wheel, die grinder, and drill.there is not much we cannot fix quickly and efficiently with OBA and an OBwelder. :D
OBA is one of the most useful additions you can make to a trail rig.useful enuff, that my tow rig and my daily driver xj will have it too.
you will be amazed how much faster a york compressor with a tank can fill your tires than a small ARB compressor.
on the other question,id go with the OX ifn i had a choice, but like stuka siad, none for the m20 yet. ifn i decide to keep my front 44 ill go with the ox in that. if i swap in my 70 ill have to use an ARB since its not likely that there will ever be enuff demand for OX to make one for it

ARB does make a Compressor big enough to run air tools 4 CFM, but its EXPENSIVE I would opt for the York Conversion

anybody, know about the Detroit electric locker? Hook up a few wires, and you have a limited slip until you push the button, then,BAM, full locker. Sounds just like the Toyota set-up, only better because we can use it too. The web site offered limited info...

no offense, but I'd rather have a Toyota rear axle over a D44 or a Model 20 any day of the week. have you thought of looking for an axle out of a Taco?

When I was down in gorman I saw some baby jeeps there that had ARB.. I was questioning him on how it performed because I have just heard soooooo many stories about them just NOT working when they really needed them.. O rings.. Hoses... things like that failing.. this guy said only thing he has heard of is the pump failing from when it was used to DO OTHER things such as pumping up tires and things of that nature...
just passing along the story..
Personally I will be going with an OX or just a plain Detroit over the ARB

The OX trax website lists the AMC 20 model as "In development"... So who knows when that will be....

sun downer: I take it you have never used a toyota 7" behind a V8 smile.gif The spider gears dont last long. First clutch drop normally blows them. Behind a 4 banger they are a very stout axle. But behind a torque-mongering V8 they dont last. The V8 toyota trucks and the sequoia use a slighty bigger version of the 7". But the toyota V8 has hardly any torque when compaired to american V8 of the same size (ford 289 is a 4.7L as well, and far greater torque)

Sun Downer, Stuka is right on the money. You don't want to try to use a toyota rear end behind a V-8. I used to own a Toyota Truck which I loved by the way. I know many people who did V-8 swaps only to find that the axles snap like twigs.

the tacos are 8.4" the crusiers are something like 10.5" I wouldnt' waste my time with a 7" either. Toyota uses the 8.4" behind Tundras with v8's and the new 4 runners with the 245 hp v8.
