Hello Sir, I saw in another post of yours, that the steering column in our rigs is GM.
Would you or anyone else on the board know of another GM vehicle that has a tilt column that would work in our Jeeps?
1980 J10, auto, specific.
Thanks!

Hello Scram-man,
What color? Has it been refreshed with paint? New bearings and joint?
Is it auto? All electric components and wiring? Rust on the shift tube or shaft?
Will a 79, which would hook up to a GM Turbo 400, work with an 80 with a 727?
Thanks,

After asking a similar question here on the forums I went out and bought a floor shift column from mid 70s GM truck. I have a Cherokee but I am sure that the same thing would work for your J truck. Scour the wreckers if you dont buy his and you can find one. $150 for a rebuilt one is a great price where I am at!

this column came out of my 79 C20 i scrapped, figured id keep it to try and use as when i re-wire the truck i can get a wiring harness for a gm column and it will just plug into the slots and makes it that much easier. surprisingly easy install, took like 2 hours to figure it out and get a mounting system made up. and its more secure with a locking column vs. the old jeep column that didnt. down at the firewall mount the original clamp was to big for the smaller diameter tubing of the chevy column. luckily the jeep column tube slid over the gm one like a glove, a few welds and it fit perfectly.

WHSII, I have a tilt column from a '77 Firebird in my '73; except for the firewall plate, which I traded with a little persuasion, it bolted right in. My wiring plug went right into the GM one, my key cylinder was traded, and my lock ring was used so my Jeep wheel would fit.
I needed one without a shifter because of my 4-sp tranny, but you can probably find one with.
If I remember correctly, the length of the column was critical for matching the F-body column to the Jeep.
And because all tranny's for years have had the same shift pattern, the leverage should be the same. (This is a guess.)
Good luck.
