Here she is, in all her rusty glory! It'll be a running project. It's main purpose is an all weather daily driver. Mild to moderate off road use will be possible, but that is really what the CJ is for.
Stay tuned for the slow transformation into a reliable, capable rig.

That is a good-looking truck. Nice Score! More pics, please. Interior? Under the hood? I like the flares on the step side fenders, and the roll bar. You are going to catch flak for the lack of a brow, but you knew that... Chrome wagon wheels look good, too.

I'm really excited about this build! I'll get more pics, later. The step sides are just cool, no matter how you look at them!
The Charger Daytona is the wife's ride. Sweet car!

Does anyone have pics of the tailgate hinges on the step side? Mine has none. I'll need to fab some up and have no idea what the originals look like.

I've gotten the interior and exterior cleaned up a bit. The interior still has a way to go. Peeled off the stickers that were on the dash. Put in new plugs and wires. Upgraded the cap and rotor to the large, Ford pieces. New belts, tomorrow. Tuned the Edelbrock carb a bit and threw some Sea Foam in the gas tank. Throttle response and drivability are much better. More running will give me a better idea but I seem to be getting about 15 mpg out of it.
Coming in the near future..... New power steering pressure line, oil change, alignment, and 32x11.50 BFG ATs, all around.

BTW, does anyone know how many step sides were produced in '83? The best info I've been able to find is that between '80-'83, 1262 were built. Roughly 420 per year?

Got new shoes today. Getting new ball joints tomorrow. Hoping to get the leaking header collector gasket replaced today, too. Bolts are pretty rusty. Might have to break out the torch.

Very nice find. Good luck getting it together. If I can I will get you pictures of the "tailgate hinge". Its not really a hinge, just round tubing that fits into a round bracket. I have alway been curious how many sportsides were built too. I was told around 700 in '83.

I have been waiting for that transformation myself for about 6 years. It can be really slow at times.

Nice 5, love the slots! I bought my '71 J2000 back in '02 out your way in Cedar Edge.

The transformation is sorta on the fast track, since this will be my daily driver. My commute is about 70 miles a day, round trip. Body work will have to wait untill at least spring and the engine/tranny swap until summer, due to the expanses. Overall, the truck is in pretty good shape.
It's getting all new ball joints and axel u-joints, today. New suspension in the next two months or so. New tires, hopefully by February.

Got all new ball joints and axle u-joints, today, as well as repacking and tightening the wheel bearings (they were loose). Fixed the leaking oil pressure gauge tubing, yesterday.
Drives much better, now. Have to replace the header collector to stop the exhaust leak. Soon to come, S10 steering box, to replace the old, leaking, wandering, stock box.

Your project is what we call around here, "fully funded" where mine is more of a "Oh, I better fix that". ;)

I used it, last night, to trailer my daughter's Jeepster. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed. Once the suspension gets replaced and some lower gears installed, I think it will make a fine tow rig for our CJ. :)

Over the past few days, put new u-joints in the rear drive shaft, new brakes, including hardware, on the front, and replaced the gear oil in the rear diff with fresh Mobil1 synthetic. Tomorrow, the Edelbrock rods, jets, and springs should be in. That means more carb tuning.
Most of what I'm doing, right now, is aimed at making it mechanically reliable, for 70 mile a day daily driving. Sorry, won't be many pics for a while.

Been quite a while, since I've updated. Due to the unwanted acquisition of a 2002 Dodge Ram, funding for the J10 became scarce.
Funding has improved though, so the J10 is getting some attention again.
The chrome wagons turned out to be pretty badly bent (yup. all 4) and were replaced with a set of used black modular steelies.
The dip stick tube broke off one night, while checking the oil in the 360. A brand new replacement from 4 Wheel Drive Hardware is waiting for me to have the free time to install it, along with a new oil pan gasket.
Today, I picked up a pair of nice seats from a 2002 Durango to replace the vaguely seat shaped things that I currently plant my posterior on, as well as a steering box from a '96 S15 Sonoma. I'll be ordering BJ's rag joint tomorrow, to go along with that install.
Also, over the winter, I replaced my failing blower motor with one meant for a '78 Chevy p/u. Big difference in the heat output. Stay tuned for progress, as it should now be semi steady. :)

Got the passenger seat, from the '02 Durango, installed with only minor mods to both the seat track and stock brackets. Hoping to get the driver side done, thursday. Think I might have to put in a Tuffy console, once the seats are done.

Didn't get much done this weekend. Spent some time giving the CJ some love.

Used some oxy-acetylene and sledge hammer persuasion to get the horribly mangled rear bumper off the J10. Made a huge difference in the appearance of the rear of the truck. Hoping to have time this week to build a new one.

I've finalized the plans and know for sure that I can get 35's under it with only 2" of lift. Stay tuned to see how I'm going to accomplish this feat. ;)

Haven't had much time to work on the truck, lately. I've been showing the family and the CJ5 some love.
Got the new rear bumper mostly done, before the wire feed on my welder crapped out. Grrrrrr.
