Just goes to show you how important it is to list an item properly on eBay. The auction title was just "TURBO KIT." I happened to find it when searching for "AMC 258" via both titles and descriptions one day.

Mmm, seems a couple of guys from the AMC forums were watching that auction, too, but didn't get up early enough or something. No reason to send me snotty emails. Ya snooze, ya looooooze...
I'm thinking about an intercooler but want to wait for the package to arrive, see what's in it, and go from there. From the photos, it looks to be a draw-through setup with a Holley 2-bbl carb. That should ease the problem of having vacuum hookups (from the carb) in light of a pressurized intake manifold. Also looks like a water injection kit is included, which is a nice touch but won't do me a lot of good in winter unless I use alcohol (can you say "fire hazard") in the reservoir. If the water injection works, an intercooler might not be needed. I'll keep you posted.

sorry my mistake I thought you got the 258
What a nice score. Now that I'm living at 7200ft, I keep thinking turbo this and turbo that... just need the funds. I'll probably do turbo two-stroke first, though. Nothing like a 480lb sled with 200hp at 10K ft.
that's a sweet deal. be glad I didn't see it earlier...as it's for sale in my backyard practically. :D :D
I'll be interested in the install.
oh...and....
YEEEEEEE-----HAWWWWWWWWWW!!

GlennTX, my primary goal is to better cope with the altitude. If the stock 258 gets about 115 hp at sea level, with 6-7 psi of boost I'll get maybe 50 more hp.
However, horsepower decreases about 3% for every 1,000' elevation. So driving regularly between 5200' (Montrose) and 10,000' (Red Mountain Pass, Dallas Divide) actually would cause my engine to chug away in the range of 80-97 hp if normally aspirated. Not much power for a big hunk of metal like a Wagoneer.
With the turbocharger, I expect to have fairly consistent power all the way uphill, literally twice as much power as I'd have without boost.
Still think a supercharger would be better for off-roading, but I couldn't help msyelf for the price of this kit. Shoot, the carburetor alone would cost me more at retail than I've paid for this entire kit!

Ralph...have you thought about switching to a 4.0 head on your motor. TONS better flow...and the end result being about a 40hp gain. Add your turbo to that and you've got a kickin 4.2.
The heads have beein improved of over the years...I would avoid pre91...and if you want the best Jeep redesigned in for 2000 and it is killer.

Saving the 4.0 HO head I have to build a 4.6L stroker, with EFI, and I'd like to supercharge it.
