82 Wagoneer, recommended lift

I am looking at purchasing a 1982 Wagoneer to take out on trails. This will be my first project and so I was wondering what you guys recommended for a lift on this year of Wagoneer. I would like to put 31's on it, and still feel comfortable on the highway.

A 4" lift will allow you to clear 31" tires without cutting your fenders.

A 3" lift will allow you to clear 31's but you will have to trim a little front and rear.

A 4" lift really isn't that tall. Mine still feels stable even at highway speeds.

Do you recommend doing a spring over, or just buying a kit? Any recommended kits?
