Maybe a dumb question.
I put mile marker hub in a few months ago. Whenever I unlock them as soon as I start moving all I hear is a bunch of griding/rubbing. When I lock the back everything is fine. Anyone have any suggestions?
OK, did you just put hubs on? Its because i am guessing you have a Quadra Trac, which has a limited slip in the center diff, which chews up the cones if both drivlines are not connected, unless it is in e-drive. Somebody else can probably explain a little better...

it's a 79 wag, so yes, it has to be a qt. basically, because of the all-wheel-drive nature of qt stuff is still moving with the hubs unlocked. which is baaaaad. emphasis on baaaaad.

Yeah I just put them on thinking I might help a little gas milage and wear & tear. I have never driven with them more than about 2 feet.

If you've got a stock QT (without a part-time kit) do not run it without the hubs locked in. You won't get very far and you will destroy you t-case. If you want to be able to unlock the hubs with that case you need to get a part-time kit from someone such as mile marker (not sure if anyone else makes them or not).

Has anyone used one of these conversion kits? If so was it worth it and how much did you pay?

i got an old case with a used mile marker conversion kit. after the swap, everything worked great. unfortunatly the chain had very little life left since it was used, so i have to put a new one in. overall it works great, and makes driving on the highway a bit smoother. also note that i used the kit with 16% overdrive. im not sure if im really saving alot of money on gas, but its alot quieter around 70mph and there is more power in that range now. goin up big hills any lower than 50 requires that i drop into second and crawl up. if you are planning on towing or doin alot of wheeling dont get the overdrive. milemarker makes a standard, and overdrive kit, and also a company called rigid steel (rigidsteel.com) makes a kit for the quadratrac. good luck, if you have any questions let me know. after just rebuilding that case all the little details are still fresh in my mind.

qUICKCLIMBER,
What exactly does the 16% overdrive mean. Living here in Houston I dont do much off roading or towing. I appreciate the info. How hard was the install?
