How much would a rebuild title with salvage title history affect your decission to buy a Wag?

Depends on what shape its in and what you are looking to do with it.
If I was buying it for parts, no problem.
I have to admit, that I dont know much about a salvage/ rebuild titles. Will it limit you on getting plates? If not, then there shouldnt be a problem...

It would cause me to look at the Wag very closely and pay attention to anything that didn't look "right." It may be that the wag was damaged and the cost of repairs exceeded a certain percentage of the "book" value which could very easily happen on a wag. Not a deal killer, but a red flag to let you know to look at it with a critical eye. A seller who knows the history and will tell you what he knows is much better than a seller who says he doesn't know why it's like that.

X2.
It may have needed a fender and bumper but the cost to have a shop repair it wasn't worth it to the insurance company on a vehicle that blue books for a couple thousand so they totaled it in the books, gave the owner an agreed upon value and he slapped new parts on it and that's what made it a salvaged vehicle.

The main problem with a salvage title, AFAIK, is that it cannot be financed. Also, your insurance company will not sell comprehensive/collision insurance on a salvage title car; PL&PD only.

As mentioned, you also have to be aware of the previous damage, and check it out before you buy. But the price should be lower than if it did not have a salvage title.

Personally, I won't touch one.

Now, here's the details.
Some may recall I rolled my Wag back in Jan. The insurance adjuster came up with $5200 value pre roll. The repair estimate came out at $5500+ a bit. So insurance totaled it and now KDOR is forcing me to jump through their hoops on the title.:banghead:
None of the roof pillars moved, no glass was broken and the only light broken was the left front marker lamp. None of the doors or tailgate were even pushed out of alignment.

My problem is, by the time the dust settles I'm going to have between 5 and 6 grand tied up in getting it to where I want it.
Now I realize it ain't gonna be worth every dollar I invest in it, but it won't be worth half of what it would be with a rebuild title with salvage history. Right?

Salvage titled vehicles are very hard to sell.
edit: you'll also notice according to the sellers they all were totaled cause of a bent bumper and broken taillight. None have actually been wrecked, rolled or went through Katrina style floods. unless it's a parts rig I wouldn't touch one either.

Unless it was Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley near free, and nothing was wrong with it, I wouldn't touch one.

When I was looking for a '68 Mustang for the wife, a guy had a VERY nice one for sale, but it had a salvage title.
His price was ridiculously low for the condition the car was in, he had been trying to sell it on/off for over a year!
It had some frame repairs poorly done though, and I passed.
Even though it would have been cheap/easy to fix, the car would never be worth any money.

Unless you can use a lot of the parts on another vehicle walk away.

It depends on what you want to do with it. Trail rig or parts rig- go for it. A rig to dump a bunch of money into- probably not.

There's some loop hole with those salvage titles, I know they were buying totaled vehicles down in TX and such and bringing them up here and with the transfer to IL the titles would be clean somehow. Makes buying a used car up here risky.

I have AAA and have never had a problem putting full coverage on any vehicle with a salvage title. I have bought trucks/cars from pick a part and they come w/salvage titles. Also at one time here in Kalifornia, a person could "salvage" a vehicle to eliminate passed due DMV fees! So just because it's salvaged, does not mean it has been "totalled" in an accident. It can also be a theft recovery,at one time sold to a wrecking yard,or whatever. Just look it over REALLY good.
Good Luck
