If anybody is interested I'm thinking of downloading 30 years of experience in electrical troubleshooting. Free of course to the FSJ crowd. Ive learned quite a few trics over the years and very few of You are close enough to be potential customers. I will cover everything that applies to auto electrics and some basic DC theory. Also I'll tell You what tools You actually must have and don't need. It will take Me a couple of weeks to write it all up. If you want it just reply and I'll do it.

Never know what tricks and tips someone has until you see them - go for it - I'll read a copy if you make it.

I'm in!!!!

Do you think you could cover how to "properly" use said tools? Half the time I don't know if I'm even using my Multimeter right...:o

There exist some good tutorials on how to use the multimeter already. Look on YouTube. Just FYI.

I would be down for any info on proper wiring, soldering, various connectors, basic circuitts, and anything else along those lines.

Now would be a good time to post any sugestions for stuff to cover. Starting, charging, power accesorys, guages, lights, auxillary batterys, ignitions and trailer wiring are already on the menu. How to use tools and the best tools will be in there too. Descriptions of how stuff works will be in plain english whenever possible. I'm thinking of using a few pictures but I want to keep the file size managable. Old and newer 50s to 90s systems will be coverd. My goal is to save You time and money by helping You do the right fix the first time. I will of course concentrate on FSJ systems and AMC's uniuque spin on how to do stuff with whatever they could buy cheap.
As much as I hate this system I will also cover that nasty feedback carb on the late sixes. Only a purist or masochist would keep that system, Howell has an exellent fix for these nasty little setups and it's Ca. certifyed!

A worthwhile endeavour, I wish you luck. I would guess that most folks who might benefit from this style of treastie would benefit from a KISS approach.

I, like you , have 40 years of experience in electricity and electronics, and folks who have no background in these subject matters simply do not have the preponderance of experience (in my humble opinion) in order to proceed with a logical troubleshooting methodology.:drivin:

We get a lot of... "yea, that happend to me, it was the "such-and_such" so check that out first..."

Get ready for endless e-mails

That being said, I look forward to your efforts, and I am pleased that someone has stepped up to the plate to offer the collective and hand.

Kudos to you, sir....

Fasten your seatbelts, It's gonna be a bumpy ride....

This would be GREAT! Perfect timing too, once I put humpty back together I've got a handfull of "minor" electrical things I need to chase.

Some real basic stuff would be great too - how to test switches, check for power where power should be (i.e., at rear wiper motor harness, rear defrost), proper use of basic tools for troubleshooting...

THANK YOU!!

I have been doing GM TBI conversions. I know its not AMC related, but I am making it related. It would be good to see some info on this upgrade included.

And thanks in advance.

please include the "why" as many of us know "how" but not "why" I am a commercial electrician and run across a lot of what we call "parts installers" and they always want me to explain in simple terms as to why they had to replace a fuse or overload relay and how they work and of course the why are they there.
Thanks for undertaking this project as even though I am an electrician I will admit that the DC automotive system is confusing to me as well and your expert knowledge will be a great help to me as I am rewiring my J10:thumbsup:

Rodriquez, if you'll 'splain to me how to wire a 4way switch, I'll figure out how to 'splain any automotive 'lectron stuff to you...

all 'lectron stuff is voodoo. Like how the little buggers flow thru holes in the conductor (which is one of two mutually exclusive theories on how current flows).

Always looking for tips on locating shorts and troubleshooting starters and alternators. Think I've got starters whupped, but alternators are still a little iffy.

Please address an LC filter for tach signals...
