found a rear 44 from a 69 commando for cheap my question is would it be a bolt in operation to replace my current m20 rear. 1980 J10

I think the 69 model D44 is the two piece 19 spline, that would make it a poor choice right off the bat. Next i do not think the Comando is the same width. I do not think it is a good swap. What is wrong with your axle?

Yep, he's right, 2 piece shafts and way to narrow. Would be closer to waggy or maybe even a CJ rear axle.
Shouldnt have much of a problem either fixing your M20 or finding another one. I would much rather have it than a 2 piece axle shafted D44.

Nope, won't work. The rear track width of your J10 axle is 63.8" and the rear track width of the C101's axle is 50" :(

ya,i would ot replace the m20 with a 44 and consider it an upgrade.

i feel the m20 is an overall stronger axle, and ill prlly be using one in my daily driver xxj to replace the little d35

thanks guys, not really looking to upgrade axle, but the 44 that I found allready has 373 gears witch is what I want to change to and it would have been easier just to change the axle then to worry about changing the gears and getting them installed properly
