of having an old cam re-ground, k so the Pro's are its cheaper than an aftermarket cam, for stock specs I can get a stock cam new for cheap enough its not worthwhile having an old one re-ground. whats the cons of having an old cam re-ground though?

Reduced base-circle screws up the lifter preload, requiring longer pushrods for proper rocker-arm geometry.

Only reason to re-grind a cam is if there are no blanks available.

Get a decent aftermarket cam, even a Summit or PAW kit with lifters, for well under $100.

well here in canada, the best price I can get for aftermarket cams is a comp cams 68-115-4 or 68-200-4 for $207 each, lifters range from $4-8 buch a peice depending where I go(average is $5.50).

a new stock cam from ertel will cost me $110

Bear in mind that you really should use new lifters, even with a regrind. You might get away with re-using the old ones, but probably not. I'd be suspicious that a regrind which much undercut the price of a stock kit may have skimped on surface hardening. It's tough enough to get good cams to break-in and wear well, and the cost of gaskets required for another tear-down discourages trying to save a few bucks up front.
I'd be near the front of any crowd cheering cheaper alternatives, but consider quality parts that deep in the motor a good investment.

Why can't you order parts from Summit Racing? You can order from them online at www.summitracing.com, (http://www.summitracing.com,) C.O.D., if nothing else.

yes I know about lifter and cams being a matched unit once they have been used. I will NEVER use used lifter on a new cam and vice versa.

lindel: take american price listed, muliply about 2zillion(actually I think its multiply by about 1.65, but you ge the point) and you have now come up with what its gunna be in canadian dollars(what I pay), dont forget freight and customs fee's(probally around $40CDN just for the customs), therefore if cam and lifters from summit is going to come out to $200 american thats apprx $330CDN, plus apprx $40 customs fee's and apprx lets say $15shipping then we get $385CDN meaning I might as well buy a comp cam locally for $207(my price with discount) and comp cam lifters(have to use theres for warrenty purpose) will be about $6 so $279 total before tax(oh yah I didn't factor tax into anything from sumit) and I get $320, yup cheaper to buy locally.

The Summit K8600 cam is $87 US, which includes a set of lifters. Now do that math and see if it's still better to go local.

Here's the part # you need. sum-k8600

Search at summit for amc cam and you'll get a pretty good list of them, some expensive some not.

Good luck,
Anthony
