Had a HAC (High Altitude Compensator) on my 1980 Toyota Corona SW. Made driving in Colorado a nice experience. It varied the amount of air going into the Carb so as to maintain the optimum fuel/air mixture for efficient engine operation no matter what the altitude. Didn't matter if I was down in Los Angeles or up at Eisenhower Pass in the Rockies, the engine ran fine with a lot of power  . Power for a four banger 18R engine in a Toy that is. :D

Has/did AMC or Chryseler ever put a similar system on their vehicles? If not, I wonder how hard it would be to do so. Perhaps a retrofit?

Just wondering but I'd really like to know.

Thanks :D :D

Yah, you can retro something...its called fuel injection!! :D

most but not all 2150's had altitiude compensator...if you lucky enough to have a 80's 258 in your jeep you get the pleasure of a carter bbd feedback carburator system that constantly adjusts fuel mixture

Thanks.......I didn't know. Geee I feel ignorant. I didn't even think to research the Waggy's Carb.

Now I feel smart.

Did the HACs work effectively on the FSJs?

thanks

thanksThey work well Larry unless/until some rocket surgeon (aka: DPO) decided to open it up and "adjust it".

The carter bbd feedback in my 258 never really worked for sh8t. I lived at 7,000 ft and it never would run right up there, but as soon as I drove into the valley it would run normal.

Just to clarify my above post, I was refering to the 2150 carb alt comp circuit working well. So far as I can tell NOTHING works well on the BBD carb...

As I mentioned when I joined this bunch of fanatics. my Waggy was owned by a real 'geezer' since it was new.

Some 'magic' was performed on it by his son. He put a push button on it so his dad could start it w/o turning the key. No telling what else he did to it.

Had to ask though since I'm not sure how much longer we'll be over here and just when I'll get a chance to get the beast on the road again.
