Hard to see in the pics, but there is also a lot of stainless steel hardware that is not painted over. Gives it a nice clean purpose built look I think.

i agree. thats what i like. painted parts with authentic hardware finishes for the fasteners and such.

Lets keep the pics coming people!! I'm spinning in circles trying to figure out the engine color pallet. Dont know if I really want to go with all one color anymore. Stock colors can be nice, but after watching years of the OverHaulin' show I kinda wanna dress her up some.

I fully dig those valve covers!!! Can that be done to the 4 covers on top of a 3.9 Cummins? I'd really like to accent it and make it pop when you lift the hood.

When I asked the wife what color she wanted to see when she checks her oil, she said Green. Well, this was the only one I could find...

Can somebody tell me what they are using for paint, how it comes packaged (rattle can or quart). I have looked at Duplicolor, HVT, and Eastwood. Will I need to prime the block and heads?
I am thinking either red or AMC teal for the block and gunmetal or cast iron for the heads. Black powder coated valve covers with the polished fins and the AMC 360 emblems. Natural aluminum intake, accesorie brackets, timing cover, and water pump. Will be running Howell EFI with AirAid intake tube with cone filter.
Any advice/suggestions on colors, paints, blah blah blah?

unfortunately dont have any pictures of my engine right now, i'll try and grab some but its olive green with black heads, black valve covers and an aluminum intake topped with a military green air cleaner

Without a complete teardown, what did you guys do to prep the block before painting? What did you use to mask off the holes you needed to keep paint out of?
Really like the gun metal and the red......

just clean all the oil and grease off of it with a good engine cleaner and wire brush what you can. i used an engine primer on mine first and went with the amc blue. and just normal masking tape works just fine for masking off the holes you need to.

Duplicolor Engine Enamel DE 1611 New F*rd Grey. I changed out the ugly manifolds for headers after they cracked. Those are black. I considered painting the engine black as well but someone made a good point that leaks are harder to pinpoint (exhaust especially) on a black block.

Pretty engines! I went with black... no pressure to keep the engine bay clean... (my truck is for off-road not concourse) :D ... plus it blends in with the color of the vacuum hoses... and with all the inevitable oil leaks it was going to be covered in black goo soon enough anyway :D

I was just gonna say if I ever paint my engine it would be AMC blue, black everything else. your engine is very close to what I picture! I like the JEEP black finned valve covers though.
question, if your going through all the effort to replace the pulleys with billet parts, why not go for serpentine belts?
what kind of power does that alternator put out?
got any pics of that beast in the jeep!

I am using the stock manifolds, but used some kind of manifold dressing on them called Calex from Eastwood Auto restorations, it made them look brand new, and of course it will be topped off with my Howell system and AirAid intake system (tube with cone style filter), and I had to have the yellow OEM oil fill cap, but it isn't on the motor yet in these pics. MSD wires and aluminum guides as well. Sorry that they aren't very good, blackberry phone camera. A little more than an RV cam, .30 over, balanced, turned crank, double roller timing chain, dog leg heads redone, BullTear HEI, Performer intake. Stainless bolt kit. The block is GM satin black and the heads are painted natural cast color. Everything else that is aluminum is unpainted.
