How hard is it to bypass the ignition switch and just put a starter button?

Fairly easy, depending on your reason for doing so.. I did it two years ago and it works great. I still have to key on(mine doesnt need a key to turn the column switch) and back off the ignition once its started (so you dont fry the ignition module).

My ignition is hard to turn, I hate changing the ignition, so would just like to make it easy. Yes I could also turn the key of and on if need be. Let me know how?

If i recall correctly, I used a pushbutton (20 amp) from Checkers...two wires, one to battery, one to ignition wire to the starter solenoid..it was a rush job a few hours before leaving for Ouray gathering so that's all I remember at the moment..

if your key is getting sticky, it's on it way out. Mine got stuck, I put pliers on it and snapped it free. I cant say thats gana work for anyone else..

What year is your ride? Depending on the starter relay used, you will either have two male blades in the center, OR two studs on top. Either way, the blade (or stud) closest to the front bumper is the one you want. You need a wire from there to a switch. The other wire from the switch goes to the relay whereever your battery positive runs to. This set up will require you to turn the key to "on" and then hit the switch, or button. On a side note, when you go to mount that fancy button in the cab of your rig, remember that when you accidentally bump into something metal just right, you are going to short out your progress. Put heat shrink over your connectors at the new switch, button what ever. Covering that metal up is good.

The start button for the Honda S 2000 looks kool.
You can buy them on EBAY for about $40.00

you could put it in place of you cigarette lighter.

I bought a wag w/ a push button. Its super simple. I beleive the PO did this simply to not have to pull the ignition.

In a related vein, I want to install an ignition security switch. The thought is to install a simple on/off switch somewhere descreet in the cab. "Off" means the ignition won't turn on the truck,"On" the truck will start normally. Is the anything I should be concerned about.

Will it be a simple addition to the ignition circuit?
