Where the heck does what go? I'll make a guess here, you have a 400 trans? If so check the modulator, if the diaphram is shot the engine will pull fluid from the trans into the intake manifold and burn it. If my guess is wrong you need to give more info.

hehe....I wasn't thinking at first... I was going to say "fill it thru the dipstick tube!" LMAO :D !!

Also...you could be leaking into the T-case/ QT unit... there is a double seal between the 2 that keeps the tranny fluid and T-case fluid separated. If the tranny side seal goes out, it can seep across into the T-case. I've seen this once...

Nah, nah.....that was definitely about the right size! smile.gif haa!

BTW....if it's an '84 GW, you have the Mopar 727 slushbox in there. Though the owner's manual, and plenty of people, swear it not only says you can use Dexron(probably DII) in there, MANY Mopar folks are of a different belief, in that you should use ONLY an ATF+(Mopar 7176 type) fluid in the Auto trannies from Mopar. PARTICULARLY the later 80s+ models with lockups, etc. I know that even in the K-cars, EVEN CHRYSLER themselves had it was ok to use Dexron, not only in the manual, but right on the dipstick. Yet, that fluid tended to gunk up the trannies and eventually fry them. I've learned a lot about doing things differently with Chrysler lately, and am just giving you the idea that you might want to consider trying an ATF+ or 7176(same thing) instead of Dexron if that's what you're now using.

If you want to learn more, poke around over on Allpar.com and see if you can find more on this(they do have a page on the fluid in their late 80s/early 90s vehicles) there.

Again, not saying I know for 100% sure on these earlier models, but I've been impressed with the Mopar fans knowledge on this issue, and won't use anything else myself in them now. Even the '88 Dodge van(B350) TSM says to use ONLY 7176 type fluids, and that's a 727 in that too! Anyway...just one more idea for you to consider.

Take care...

check the lines to the cooler, especially where they cross under the front of the oil pan. the trans dip stick is the one on the passengers side btw. get a thin neck funnel and fill via the d/stick
