Gas tank swap or repair

I have a 1981 Wagoneer that has a plastic tank with a leak in front passenger corner. I also have a 1979 Chief with a steel tank. Can I swap that Chief tank to the 81 Wag if so predict how much customization needed.
Or should I attempt to repair the repair that failed and caused my issue?
Or should I find some donor like an 81 Wag or some other vehicle?

I personally dont knwo for sure but getting underneath to check the t-case output and drive shaft angle to the rear pumpkin will tell you a bunch; especially with having both vehicles right there to inspect. I'd imagine they are both mounted along the drivers side frame rail towards the rear axle. You should most likely be able to use the mounting hardware from the donor tank to mount it in the new to it location. I wish I had exact handson knowledge but I'm betting you can eyeball it and ifneeds be a tapemeasure would confirm what your eye tells you.

There are products out there that you can use to mend the crack in the tank that isnt gas soluable if it comes down to it.
