your oil online, when you can't find the right stuff locally?

I'm sticking with 15w40 synth when I rebuild the oil pump, and finding it around here is proving fruitless. Well, in enough quarts, in one brand besides friggen Pennzoil.

I've traditionally stuck with Royal Purple, but I'm not married to the stuff either. Esp not at (usually) 33-35 bucks a gallon, or 9 bucks a quart.

So, any online merchants you folks are fond of for motor oil? And, is this the right spot for this? Wasn't sure.

I have never seen 15W40 in synthetic, not saying it don't exist, just never seen it. Usually the synth version is 5W40.

Down in AZ I used to see Rotella by the gallon and in cases... used it in my XJ till I switched to RP, which was also easy to find. Really, either one would make me happy, but trying to find that stuff in-store here is ridiculous. And I don't want to order by the case or 5-gallon container, which seems to be the only options offered me here.

I suspect the high availability had a lot to do with the high temps and heavy amount of sandrails/prerunning rigs in the area.

I may have to think about a re-sell concept ..... lol

Have to do some checking with my connections around here.

Git to googlin' AMSOIL and you should either find a local "dealer" or you can become a "dealer" yourself. I checked into a while back and not remembering enough I dont want to give you bad info.

I don't buy oil online, shipping adds too much to the cost. If Royal Purple is your favorite flavor call them and they'll tell you your nearest distributor then buy case lots so you ain't running back every oil change.

Hah-HA!!! Search successful. I started rooting around the phone book and found a store w/ quite a bit of RP stuff. Only thing I didn't see was the coolant additive. (not a big deal, winter's around the corner)

In the future though, I think I'll be ordering it from O'Reillys by the case-load... they give me a discount. :D

Now what's this I hear about Amsoil? I am basically just interested in a good, fully synthetic motor oil, not married to any one brand. Pennzoil and I had a nasty divorce though.

What's weird is, the store I found today is basically a house that got converted into a parts store(on the inside only), then bought out by Baxter Auto. Apparently though, they aren't being too picky on appearances. I must've driven by that store a thousand times already, and it's the closest parts store to me! That's what I get for not doing enough research. Ah well. I talked to the older guy at O'Reilly/Schuck's and he said so long as I call a few days in advance they'll have it waiting. And they have a 15% military discount, so that knocks the price way down as well. Thanks again fellas.

@Snowbirdhunter: If Quartzsite really doesn't have a local supplier (wouldn't surprise me) that might not be a bad idea. When I was stationed in Yuma, we used to fuel up and head out to the dunes in Cali, then truck it north and back east. We'd be passing through Quartzsite around sundown so long as nobody got stuck on the way. Can't even remember more details than that, except that it was one big, hot, dry, fun circle to make. In fact, if you've been in the area a while you might have seen me. Mine was the only XJ with a snorkle in pretty much all of SW Arizona. :D

AZ and Advance Auto usually have a great monthly special with a quality oil filter . Much cheaper than indivdual quarts and usually Mobil 1 or Valvoline .
Don't forget the ZDDP . You can usually find it at Advance Auto .

www.amsoil.com (http://www.amsoil.com) They even have a high zinc synthetic. You can find somebody local that sells it, become a preferred customer and get it cheaper or become a seller yourself. I've been doing the preferred customer thing for about 4 years now.

:lol:LOL, now if that isn't just irony right there...

I went to the AMSOIL site, searched for a nearby dealer... I could WALK over to get my oil. There's a dealer a block west and one block south...

IF he's got it in stock. My experience with Amsoil is that tons of people "become a dealer" just to buy it direct, and save some money. It seems that many "dealers" don't stock anything, but their own stuff.

I have bought race oils from Summit Racing, Jeg's and even Amazon.com.

You have to shop them all for the best price. Amazon sometimes has free shipping, depending on weather you buy from them direct, or if it comes from one of their vendors.

The key is to find a dealer that is also a Jeeper... than you are set. ;)

Kidding aside... Due to the costs of carrying a pile of inventory, I carry the stuff I am going to use and whatever I know I will sell in the next few months.

Since I have a number of Harley customers, I stock the Harley oil filters(Harley guys LOVE the chrome version) a couple of cases of oil for them. But since I don't have a single boat owning customer, I don't stock any of the marine products. Of course I stock the products for various Jeeps, but 80% plus of my sales come from Jeep owners.
