I ordered a set of Prothane "Wagoneer, Full Size Cherokee Body Mount 63-91" (part #1-106) for my 74 wagoneer Custom. Tried to put them on Sunday and they don't fit! The hole diameter that the mount drops into on the frame is smaller than the new mounts. The new mounts are also twice as thick as my orginals and the lower piece is different too. I have a 2" lift to also put on so I really did not want/need the extra thickness. Where did I go wrong?

The new mounts will be thicker due to them being Poly and the the fact that the OEMs are squished down....

You can take a rounded file, sand paper, dremel, anything you can fit in there and just round out the hole a little until it will go in.
There is a big squish factor in the old ones.
I do not know what year the body mount changed but the older style (like my '70) is just a round rubber bushing (maybe 1" thick when new) that goes between the mounting point and the body.
Is that what they look like on your '74?
Do the body bolts come out from the inside on your '74?
Or from below using a captive nut?

Are you talking about the bolts being larger? If so then I don't think any of the bolts fit for anyone. I had to buy all new bolts to put the body lift on my '67. As for the mounts being thicker, RB is correct on that.

If someone will tell me how to paste a picture into a post I have a picture of the two mounts side-by-side. The bolts come out from inside the body. There are a lot differences between these mounts. The Prothane mount diameter (the part that fits into the round hole) is 1 3/8". The orginal mounts are only about 7/8" (that's too much to grind). The hole through the Prothane mount is 1" and the hole through the metal insert of the factory mount is only 7/16" (big difference) . Prothane mount thickness between frame and body is 1 3/16", factory mount is 5/8" (no way this has been compressed over 1/2"). Prothane mount diameter is 2 7/8", factory 2 1/2" (less than that if its been compressed).
Send them over and I'll try to post them real quick.

tadsal - Did you get the pictures (I sent three)?
Got them, here they are...

... you originals are about the same diameter and thickness as the ones on the '68 and the '70 I have. Mine do not have any type of metal insert or rubber lip that drops into a hole. they are just sandwiched between the mount point and the body.

tadsal,
Thanks for posting the pictures. The difference in hole diameter bothers me - seems like there would be room for too much play. I also am not wild about trying to increase the hole diameter on the frame mount (besides being a PITA, I would worry that it was weakening the mount). Do you know of any other sources of mounts like mine?
Thanks!

BTW, the middle picture is a little misleading. The Prothane mount shows the top and the factory is the bottom. There is a large diameter washer/metal sleeve combination on the factory mount. Did nor realize I had it upside down until you posted the picture.

The red ones look just like the ones I pulled off Ridgbak's 1985.

I would just get some pipe or metal tube of the right thickness and cut it to length and make spacers. Also get the biggest bolts you can fit in the holes from the hardware store. You should be able to find a combination that is close with some imagination and a little work.

75 is when the body mounts changed. My 75 still has the 14 total mounts instead of the 10 or so of the newer ones (I forget the exact number). Mine all just sit between the body and frame except for I think 1 on each side that dont have bolts that go through them. They have a protrusion on top that goes into a little hole.
