Being I build custom seats for all kinds of vehicles it should be only fitting that the Jeevy should have a really sweet seat. What would make the FSJ seat perfect for you? I am going to be doing away with the rear seat half the time and replacing it with a flip up dog platform.
Thinking some kind of trays in the back of the seats for storage. inda of like the Smitty built covers. Im the only driver so I dont want all the electric stuff for adjustments and im in so cal so heaters arnt needed. What am I missing?:D

Comfort Comfort Comfort... As long as they are comfy your good.
I would love to have arm rests in my SJ and I really like the idea of having a CB speaker in the head rest so I can hear it over the road noise. Also I'm really liking what are friend Chad did with the drawer coming out the front for tow straps, jumper cables, wrenches ect.

Good ideas... Im not sure I have any room under the seat with the FSJ... Not built quite the same as a Blazer. ?

Comfort and ....... I guess you'd call it a deep cupped bottom, or high bolsters, (I'm not much on seat tech.) to help keep certain body parts from sliding off the seat when off-road'n.:drivin:
I thought about a drawer that open sideways, toward the open door, when I make new brackets.
Like the speaker for the CB too.

Ejection capability via a button and make them vibrate 10 miles before a breakdown so you can stop for a beer beforehand.

You should have more room under the stock seats of a FSJ then under the seats of a stock 73-87 Chevy.
I can fit WAY more junk under one of mine (buckets) then my father can under his whole bench seat.
Not sure what you will end up with for room with custom seats though.

The blazer had factory buckets and there is 3 times the height of the SJ buckets underneath. I still think we can do it. I'm gonna try on mine here in a few weeks so we'll see.
I also have found the pouches on the back of my suburban seats very handy. Great for flashlights, maps, spare underware for those gnarley trails ect. ect.

Ok, never seen stock GM buckets. I just know the benches have very little room under them.

Not custom but I am putting a complete set, front (power) and rear, of leather seats from a Ford Explorer in my 76 Chief. Not sure how the rear fold down seats are going to work, but I am documenting the whole thing and will make a thread incase anyone is interested.

I have exploder seats in it now. I had a hard time getting the passenger seat low enough. Now that I have the body on a Blazer frame I might whittle on the hump a bit. I have working room now...

I had a friend in the Army (30 yrs. ago) that had a '75 or so Monte Carlo that had swivel buckets. Pretty cool:cool:
I'll have to keep an eye out for that at the pic-a-part.

Check out boats an motor homes for swivel seats. Most dont measure up to impact reg's.

Nice, but...no offense, the LACK of GM Grey Crap Plastic is what I like about my FSJ...
now if those were all leather, sure..

Fair enough. I agree! I don't personally like leather but some nice durable fabric and no plastic, absolutley! How much MT???:p

LOL -- one, those are from Dodge's; two -- Duh. I was simply suggesting that he integrate the ideas ;)
If I had the capacity, I would probably do it out of Wagoneer seats. They're the best looking seats that are stock for FSJ's. IMO

The waggy seats ARE nice looking, but horrid to sit in if you're a big person. Zero lumbar support..they should have shipped pillows with them, new. I like the ideas in those dodge seats (pardon me) but the grey plastic trend with autos these days...blech.

I've been eyeballing some of the chairs around my shop and wondered about incorporating some features into truck seats.
What about open mesh seating surfaces? In the heat we get here, total body air flow would be magnificent.

First and foremost I'm looking for a matching set of 40-20-40 seats for the front and back of my J-truck. After that here are a few things I'd like :
~ Highback seats or adjustable headrests (havent found anything comfortable that doesnt make my neck feel pushed forward)
~ Fold down backrests for the middle seats to serve as armrests when the middles arent being used
~ Bucket style seats VS bolsters (the outer bolsters always wear bad, especially on the drivers seat)
Here are a few things that would be nice additions :
~ Cupholders that come out from under the middle seats
~ Lockable storage compartments under the four outer seats (to keep items from rolling out from under them or flying around off-road)
~ A breathable type material ... leather and plastic stick in the heat and fabric soaks up sweat and stains (the office chair mesh sounds interesting, but what about the longevity of it?)
Those Journey seats just about have everything that I'd like. :o
