gearing swap ?s

Hey all...I've had a spare set of 3.54s left over from my old Cherokee complete with carriers and install kits. My '91 Wag has 2.72 gears and is quite possibly weaker off the line than my old Geo Tracker (with 80 hp!). What would I gain / lose from a gear swap? I do a lot of interstate driving (trips home, etc) aqnd I like to be able to cruise around 75 mph or so...could I still do that with 3.54s and not have the engine turning 4k?

Please advise.

You would be better off with the 3.54's all the way around. With 33's and 4.10's I turn about 3400 to 3500 at 65 to 70.

Thanks JeepBob...I'm running P-series radials (like 235/75 or some such). What will this gearing swap do to my cruising RPM and gas mileage? Will it be THAT much of a difference?
